In my painting class at school i have been asked to chose a concentration and do 12 peices, but i'm having troble chosing a thing to concentrate on . we are being graded on the creativity of he concentration idea and will be penalised if it is too broad (i.e if i chose to do portraits of elderly people i would be grade better than if i chose just portraits ) If you have an interesting ideas i'd love to hear them.

oh and I have an almost identical assignment in my photography class so if you have any ideas for that i'd apreaciate them too .

Well, how would you like to spend your time on these assignments? What would be fun for you? Or, what subject could you pick that would help you reach your long-term goals as an artist?

Some ideas about what to think about (with examples):

*Time - is the theme set in a particular period in time? "Baroque, future"
*Setting - are the pieces limited to a certain place? "africa, bathroom"
*Emotion - are the objects unified in that they tell a story emotionally? "welcoming, hostile"
etc etc

Combine these to create your concentration.

thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.
seedling. the problem is i like drawing pretty much everything but the thing i need to work on most is human anatomy so i will probably have people and faces in all of my work .

seer. i never thought as deeply about what to choose. your advise has put me farther away from choosing a concentration than before ! lol but what ever i pick will be better because of it.

I'll put a list of ideas up this weekend and see what you think. I'd like to get started on Tuesday since i'm kind of a slow artist

I had to do something similar for the final section of my art A-level and chose hands, because I knew I needed to practice them and it'd give me a chance to combine my school and my own work, and in doing it I'd be learning things useful for my future work. That might be something to consider.
