Kaffinated, your attention to light and modeling form on that body builder figure is impressive. The warms and cools in the flesh is quite nice as well. Love the textures you've rendered in that old masters study, the fur and the fabric of that frill.

Hey long time since I've been around! The master study and oil paints are great achievements. If you keep doing the master studies with studies from Andrew Loomis' - Figure Drawing For All Its Worth, you'll start to give them more life and solidity. Form all the way! I did things backwards when I went through half of the Riven Phoenix videos last year only to realise I was still struggling with expressive figures from my imagination. I'm going to be around more so I'll look forward to updates dude!

mellongcreate: Yeah it has! I have yet to check out Figure Drawing For All Its Worth. Im currently integrating what Carl Dobski was talking to me about during me portfolio review. Thanks for stopping on in!
Hyptosis: Cheers mate! will keep em coming.
Here is some of the sketching i got done in NZ and some land scape thumbnails exploring composition and snare drumming.

The last one has a nice composition and atmosphere :) But don't neglect the colors! Do some studies from life if you can, or from photos. It will be hard to get into colors later on if you do too much greyscale stuff now.

There is some real good stuff going on here! One thing that I can give you as an advice is that you should go back and hit the basics again. You did some handstudies at the beginning of this page, I think you should get back the the bones and do some more intense studies. Getting a good foundation is what counts most. If you don't get the basics down there is always the danger that your stuff will somekind keep on "floating in space", meaning that it will get very hard to improve in a way that will satisfy you. Get a solid foundation and you will have something to build up on!
Just keep on pushing it! You're doing good so far! These were just my two cents including my oppinion on what you should focus on

Gloominati: Thanks for stopping by. I got about 20 some odd pages of the hand/skeleton studies I just need to get the gf to take pictures of em, due to drawing them on A3 paper.
I need to see if i can post the reff on CA. I was working on likeness with this one. Will post reff soon!

doot-doot...Marama-na!
Hehe, good to see you survived the long-ass LAX layover. How's Texas? I know the Houston area at least got some freaky weather yesterday...
Those painted studies look pretty good, especially the master copy. Your work seems to improve immensely when you put more time into a single piece. I have to say on a lot of the other stuff your line quality could use some work. In general, particularly in stuff done from memory/imagination, a lot of the forms are very amorphous, you're not committing to a strong and definitive shape and it takes away all the volume and weight...
I really think you need to do more long studies, like the last one you did, but push the rendering MUCH further, really dig into the full range of values. Also be attentive to specularity and stuff...for capturing skin you may find that color (yes, color :D) actually makes it a bit easier, not harder.
For the shorter studies like gestures and anatomy, I think you need to concentrate on getting the lines right, if you do a lot of studies and the proportions are off every time, you're just reinforcing bad habits. Also maker sure that the lines express volume, a large part of that is tightening it all up and not having gaps or letting the angles go all over the place (I should know...I've got my own problems there...)
Keep it up bra!

your studies are looking great,
I guess like algenpfleger says focus on colour,
some things you just can't really do with grayscale that you can (and that are easier in colour anyway) in colour.

I think the lighting on her face looks great, the shadows and highlights are blended really well in that area, you can't see the gradation of tones as much as you can on her body. Id say work on blending those on the rest of the piece like they are on the face.
