nice sketches but you've got to try and avoid using the blur tool so much. It's nice to see brush strokes rather than something that looks like a giant smudge and you don't do your linework any favours that way. Try to get a strong painting style for your colourings.

Love your sketches. The overbuilt / muscular look is great. Only suggestion is to resize your images to about 50-75% before posting... the bigger ones you have to scroll to see.

Can't wait for updates! Keep it up and welcome :)

Hey there. Thanks for visiting my book; I've been dying for some feedback since a lot of my buddies have been inactive for a while.

You have some really nice stuff here. I'm a little in awe of your imagination on some of those monstrous profile heads--but can you turn them and show them from other angles? If not, work on that. It'd also be nice to see some more stuff without such wildly exaggerated proportions--you do those very well but they could become a crutch.

Jackwhat
September 9th, 2007, 10:57 AM
Lotta nice stuff goin on up in here yo. I like the vast majority of your techy designs, theyve got a fair bit going on with em and your monsters are cool to boot.

With your colours i really think they could benefit from a highlight as it would really bring them out, as is theyre ok but still not popping out as strongly as they could.

So if you dont mind ill slap a coupla links that are worth the read and illustrate the point im tryin to make.

Welcome to the group!

Oh wow, nice works for sure! You, like AsaB, have great lines too!

Oh man, I'm kind of intimidated now by the group I signed on for lol!
Regardless, your work is goregous. I may have some requests for you later... We'll have to see how it goes...

Regardless, would you be interested in weekly activites too? I'm just going to ask everyone to see how this group goes, I'd like to see an active group (at least weekly).

Hey man :)

Ooh, you've got some impressive designs here! Your texturing is amazing. I see creatures and monsters are your thing, ne? Lovely stuff, maybe something I'll try out (so not my comfort zone!).

Anyway, just checking how things are with my fellow sketchers. Keep on drawing!

Hello :)

Some good sketches over here, i can see lot of improvement even between just one post to the next. I notice the timespans are a bit long between a few of the posts, you must have been practicing in the meantime,

hope you post more often. I definitely like to see where your taking it, your designs are quite interesting.

Awesome stuff! very inspiring,

all i would recommend is to do heads from more angles sooo many profiles! (very good profiles!, but i used to do them so much too) i dont know, you might not be doing them as much as i think, its just what i've seen.

lush stuff none the less!

thank you fellow sketchbooksupportgroupers, your help is much appreciated :hatsoff:
I am on page TWO!!! wow that feels good :)
Some sketches (some from ref), need to work more anatomy and rendering:

~Faust~
July 13th, 2008, 05:35 PM
If you want to practice rendering more, you should begin with basic forms, like cubes and stuff. Hatch your way around them and you'll be ready to apply the rendering to more complex forms eventually. Also, you should mimic the rendering of other artists, so you can get a bigger picture of what's possible.

Awesome Hydralisk! I like it <:)

Mat Kaminski
July 14th, 2008, 03:02 AM
Woohoo! Hydralisk!! :D

Your newest are looking really nice! Try doing some facial studies, especially expressions. That will help you grasp on to the emotion of your characters.
You do those from reference by the way, right?

Anyway, keep up the great work.

Cool stuff here. Too bad some of the earlier ones are on graph paper, but oh well :)
I think your realistic stuff is even better than the fantasy, but I guess one freedom of drawing is drawing things that aren't real. And they are pretty cool. I should be doing a bit of that myself...

Mat Kaminski
July 21st, 2008, 02:31 AM
That's an interesting gray scale you got coming along. You should stick to non-color for now to make sure you have your values down. When you get confident enough with your grayscale, you can easily switch to color by painting over the areas with the neccessary colors :)

You'll go far, just keep dilligent on your work.

And I have to ask, is that a sword on that marine? :D

PlasmaErnst
July 22nd, 2008, 05:40 PM
mnm: thank you, monsters are just great! :)
blenditall: Thanks! When i draw from imagination things just get exaggerated, hehe :)
Malakai: Thanks for passing by fellow ssg-er.
Uhm ja...its a sword...well i guess thats the warhammer influence ;)
As for the grayscale/value, i keep that in mind. Thanks

Sup Plasma :)

Your sb makes me think something along the lines of Warhammer meets Resident Evil ;P hehe

Nice sketches on the last post, the first ones gas some very good values. Reminds me to practice some more with monochromatic paintings. Are you planing on adding colors on them?
Like to see where you are going with the chaos one, the right side seems a to me a bit empty as for now.

See ya :)

Mat Kaminski
July 23rd, 2008, 01:55 AM
Oh hey now, your newest picture looks very promising. One thing I would suggest is to watch out on the hands though. Try doing a couple of hand studies, they will help you better grasp how the anatomy of the hand works.
Either way though, it has potential.
Other than that the other piece is coming along.

~Faust~
July 25th, 2008, 04:21 PM
Alter, Du postest ja schon ziemlich regelmäßig, wie? :)

AsaB
July 29th, 2008, 02:17 PM
Your creature designs are impressive and dynamic, I really like your sketchy painting style :) The one with the leaping mech dog is great, the man's design is excellent, with those bulky legs and torso. Your sense of form seems quite good, considering your (somewhat raw!) shading. I hope to see more stuff soon!

angel2342
August 1st, 2008, 07:03 PM
Your concepts are simply amazing. I love your black and white linework/sketches. But there were a few that you colored where I would still opt for the sketch as the better of the two drawings.

PlasmaErnst

Angel: ohh thank you...but i am still struggling with everything :D

AsaB
August 9th, 2008, 03:27 PM
Nice sketches, man! I'm seeing that your human anatomy is getting quite good, not to mention creature anatomy, hehe :) Pretty solid shading as well, like on that running girl monster. Fun seeing your sketches for the weekly topic, pretty nice aztec temple there, pity we didn't see something like that in the final! I realize that's not entirely your fault, though, with the PC crash.

Say, in the first couple pages of sketches, are these done from life? It looks to me as if most of the faces are done by ref, they've got such different facial structures. If so, that's a very good path to follow! As much as I like your sweet critter designs, you can't forget do practice us humans too, hehe :) Just 10 minutes of gestures a day or so to start you off with. But it also seems a lot of the creature designs involve human antomy so maybe it'll all come together eventually.

Anyway, I hope you'll get some drawings done in spite of your exams. Good luck with those!

Renegade89
August 9th, 2008, 07:26 PM
Hey, finally updated :)

Cool sketches, great movements in those monster´s poses you sketched.

You have a cool sense of design when playing with muscles body parts to make those creatures, keep it up.

Don´t forget about drawing plain average joe´s though, youll never know when you might need some characters for those creatures to feed upon or something :P

Justice Von Brandt
August 13th, 2008, 10:18 PM
Why draw people when you can draw good monsters :P

Really energetic poses, and the monster designs are great too. I'd love to see a nice crisp finished one though!

I've seen you in DSG a lot, as much as I'd love to enter those things, I never get anywhere by the time its well and truely over, and then I give up, but when I see you there your stuff is more often than not my favourite by far you have a sick style!

I'm liking your digital work! It's looking great. It still has a slightly fuzzy look to your color, but your lines are soooo clean! You look like you've drawn with charcoal and colored with pastels in your drawings. Nice work for digital!

Just like I recommended to Renegade, Luis Royo might be a good artist for you to study because he seems to have monsters and women in alot of his drawings. A pretty good contrast in my opinion. Although some of them are kind of disturbing... lol.

Anyway, keep going :D

Na das will ich doch hoffen! HAhAHA! Solide sheeeeeeeeize alda!

I recently made a low poly 3d model in wings3d.
In future projects i should define the different bodyparts better (shoulders/chest - legs/abdomen).
Also better uv unwrapping in terms of placment of cuts and general layout of the pieces would improve speed and quality.
