View Full Version : Canvas Resizing Bug?

Hello once again,
I'm having a problem here: I have Painter X, and I recently created an illo in Painter, passed over to Photoshop and then back to Painter in order to create certain effects and stuff I wanted to do. In the Photoshop stage, I added a layer to work with, saved it, and then when I opened it up in Painter, I tried to proceed to do a canvas resize (like 500 pixels downwards). Something funny happened: it seems that only the BACKGROUND (first) layer resized, but the second layer would work like if no canvas resizing had been done at all. So when I tried painting over the new canvas on the second layer, it just wouldn't work! The brush stroke would work only until it got to the borders of the "old" image before the canvas resizing. The only layer that would allow painting on is the bottom background layer. Is this kind of layer behavior normal in Painter?

thanks in advance,

If we use Canvas > Resize, then change the dimensions in pixels to a lower set of numbers for Width and Height, or change the unit of measure to Percent and type the percent of reduction we want, the entire image is resized downward including the Canvas, Layers, and Shapes.

I just opened an image (created in Painter X and saved in TIFF format) in Photoshop 7, added a new Layer, and painted strokes across the Layer and up and down past the edges.

Then I saved the image in PSD format, opened it in Painter X and used Canvas > Resize to reduce the width by 200 pixels (height automatically reduced).

I painted with yellow on the Layer. It worked as expected with the yellow brush strokes going entirely across the Layer and beyond the edges and entirely up and down on the Layer and beyond the top and bottom.

Then I moved the Layer to see where the yellow Painter brush strokes extended beyond the edges. The black Photoshop brush strokes stopped abruptly at the edges of the Layer though I did not stop my strokes at the edges but instead continued off the edges just as I did in Painter. That was not a function of opening the PSD file in Painter, however. I kept the image open in Photoshop and checked later. The black brush strokes always did stop abruptly at the edges of the image.

This is how I would expect Painter to work.

What method did you use to resize the image?
