I want to know how to fix my anatomy problems. For examples see my other post a little further down please.

Basically what's wrong with my anatomy? Proportion?

Proportion is usually the case. If it looks slightly off, its definitely off, that's how unforgiving anatomy is.

But on the bright side, human brain KNOWS what the correct anatomy looks like. It's embedded into our brains, we can spot when things are not looking correct, why do you think you know when things are off. Its putting down on paper we need training for (because of problems such as symbolism). In fact, human brain knows many things but it only needs to be reminded of them (its amazing isn't it). So have a bit of faith in your instincts.

There are few things you can do to spot the mistakes.

Squint your eyes, make things blurry so all you see is shape, no details to grab your unwanted attention.

Think in 3D. Forget about rendering. Just think about mass and their placements in space. This also involves perspective. A common mistake is to have mixed perspectives on different parts of the anatomy.

Flip your canvas. Both vertically and horizontally. Do it often. If not, get a massive mirror and put it next to your paper, monitor whatever, and keep yourself updated in realtime.

no. the thing is that you'll never question what you see live or on photos.
many of the best artists in terms of anatomy have developed their very own "human figure model". i mean what do the figures of say michelangelo, frazetta, brom, djurjevic and vallejo have in common except for sporting 4 limbs and a head attached to a torso? yet all make you say "thats good anatomy!!!"

the question is if you are able to sell what you do. and to do that you have to create with "authority" like Marshall Vandruff said so well in that fanboyradio.com interview.

I saw the work of Wes Burt here and it was like looking at me in the future... he draws exactly the way I've always pictured I might years from now or wanted to draw anyway.

Jason, you only need 1 thread to discuss this issue.
