Nice work! I like the disrupted birds coming out of the tree, cool detail.
I too have been looking forward to seeing your piece. Give us a clue! Did you stick with the mutant dog idea you were posting before? I went down the mutant animal path myself. I still have a lot of work to do, but I'm determined to have something to enter!

there's enough praise on your superior technique so i'll let it out here and focus on the design.
i especially like that there are trees growing on the monster.
kinda reminds me of a giant in an old dr. strange story that had a whole cityscape on its back.
i'd love to see it evolve into a kinda common landscape on the top even with some houses on it.
but yeah, that definitely is a cool doodling. i love to make things like that (not as good as yours of course) at work, too :)

Thanks for all the positive input on this. It really surprised me. This was one of those peices where you just let whatever happen, happen. No descriptions, no time limits, just flow.
Soupy I'm glad you noticed the little dudes on the swing set , you are the proud winner of a free post on any thread in this forum!!! :)

hey, it was totally worth staying up till 2:40!! this one is amazing! i know you were probaly tired and ran out of time...but you have a beautiful piece, but then you have his right thigh as just a grey shape. kind of detracts from all the detailed rendering of the rest of his body. still very awesome. draw more stuff, i wanna see!!

Wow...that's really cool. Well, you may have been tired, but it was worth it. Another great page added to your sketchbook.

Whoo hoo! Its drawings like these that make coming to this forum all worth while! I like the first one, but I really think you pushed the concept a lot further in the second one, not to mention that its easier to relate to because of the more human-like anatomy. It also has a huge emotional impact. Very inspiring. One thing that I thought was cool about the first one was the fact that the shoulder muscles blended into the zygomatic (cheek) bone. Your drawings are great! I don't know how far you are on your thunderdome piece, but I would suggest using more of a watercolor approach this time, to really show off that beautiful pencil work!
By the way, I read in Gekitsu's string that you lived in Germany at one point, I'm assuming as part of an Air Force tour of duty. As an air force bratt, I had the oppurtunity to live there too, from about 1981-1986. My family was stationed at Senbach Air Force Base. We lived in TX after that.

Thanks everyone
I'm glad you like em. I truly "felt" different while drawing these, I don't get in that zone that often. I'm sure you know what zone I speak of. with all the illustrations i do it's usually about every 10 drawngs or so that the buzz kicks in and i just lose myself in a piece. So my philosophy is to just draw more, yeh?
As far as color, i'm still searching for my groove. I'm trying so many different things and can't find a style that i'll be comfortable with. i already subitted my t-dome entry to jason and i'm sorry to say that i did not use the watercolor technique. I will definitely try it though. thanks again.
Hey Mac,
I was in germany from 86-91 at Spangdahlem, air force, (near the Roman capitol of Gaul, Trier).

mcotie:
your pencil work is amazing, i was wondering if your could muster-up or make-up some pointers to help me out? i dont know if you have seen any of my conceptual sketches or not, i think you have seen some. is there anything that you see that i need to improve on from where you stand?
i am really kind to myself and i have a need for a humbling.
*edit: that is an open invitation for anyone that feels they could help me - or has a need to chew on someone. *raises and arm for chewing*
