thanx tyboogie, I'll take your advice and build uppon 2 and 5 (I wish I didn't have other homework slowing me down)
#4 is floating.. I was thinking of a flying vaccume that sucked up rioters into it's compactor.. but I've abandoned that one...I felt it was a little to cliche/untastefull of a design.. I'd like to stick with a retro design of the dumptrucks to stay true to the story/movie.. pluss when the riot controllers are presented as dirt trucks that lift the rioters into the compaction containers on their backs, it really breaks people down insultingly to dirt..
I'd like that to show.. because the theme of "Soilent Green" is that society as a whole cares about nobody.. to the sense that they'd turn eachother into food...
Yea the marker bled thru to the papers below... I wasn't thinking, these are just 5 to 10 min thumbnail sketches..... I'll take that into account next time I want advice.. gotta deliver it in a way that's not distracting : )

My design continues.. it usually takes 5 to 10 thumbnails for me to fully explore a personal/hoby design... I would like for this one to be nice...
I've expanded on the designs of 2, 5, and 6... anyways here's the thumbs

more expansion on the design..
I was toying with the idea that the compactors would pressurize the remains of the rioters to shoot high velocity bood out of the hoses... to *tasteless* I know but I had a fun time with it
any help before I crank this thing out would be nice

sammy these designs kick ass bro!! (and so much cleaner this time around...nice!)
you goin to savannah college of art BTW?
anyhoo-- its a little hard to help you because i havent seen soilent green and im not 100% on what these designs perform, but...
its obvious that the truck needs room in the back to "process" bodies or whatevs, so.... if thats the case if your going to have the flat bed (area in back where bodies go) show us how those open up for bodies
14 is really nice, but maybe it could be a bit longer to balance out the weight of the crane more.
theres something really nice about teh streamlined flatness of #11
---what if #11's body extended the back three tires all the way flush with the sides of the back bed part
i think you got a more impressive design inside you, and i think if you keep sketching itll come out. my advice would be to try more abstract shapes instead of sticking with traditional bulldozer ( big square, rectangle)
maybe you could push your thumbnails in more different directions--most seem to belong within the same design sensibility--which isnt a bad thing --im just impressed with your designs and it would be intersting to see you take an entirely diff direction design wise ion the same subject matter
keep up the great work man--ty

melmann, I posted a small tutorial of how to do thumbnails for vehicles like this here
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10204
tyboogie, thanx for all the great advice.. I took it in my latest thumbnail..
I will take more design paths with my next project, I wanted this riot controller to look "retro" and boxy.. sorta how people saw the future back in the 1960's (like the movie)... so research has lead me to this more narrow path..
looking back on it all .. I really really liked 14 so I tried to give it more weight like you said...
I think my final design will be similar to this

well i really liek teh design here. so you gonna do a finished piece/painting now that youve settled on a design?
as far as teh "narrow path" --i think we need restrictions and parameters to work within first so we can truly focus our creativity ( so youre smart for giving yourself a reference point and retro direction which is totally appropriate. i just want to see more concepts thats all:D
im excited about your work man--good stuff--ty
