I realized a little too recently that most of my work doesn't portray anything really filled with motion; anything action-packed.

I was thinking of doing a digital painting of someone jumping toward the viewer. However, I don't want to draw any motion lines (like anime/comic book stuff). I've had some ideas for strategically blurring some places, but before I proceed, does anyone have a good tutorial for packing in some powerful action into realism (without it looking like a video's being paused).

So anyone know any tutorials? Thanks.

Use lines in the gesture that move toward the viewer. The most important thing to remember is to have a dynamic/convincing figure (instead of motion lines like you said). Foreshortening, values, composition, experiment with different things. Have the action follow a line. Look at good comics work for ideas.

Secondary movement. Hair, ropes, clothes, etc all flap when movement occurs.

Diagonal lines. Vertical and horizontal slow things down.
