ok guys , here's my story, yipper, evildan, tyboogie, muttonhead, where's yours?

i was on the 15th floor of a new york office building, at 4:11, poof! the lights went out, confused, i went downstairs, yes stairs, to see what was going on. everything was out, streetlights, other buildings, everything!. so i ran back up the 15 floors and packed my bags and a bottle of water and went on my trek downtown to the bridges to get back home. if you've never been to new york city, that's a long ass walk! but luckily i wasn't alone, there was thousands of people walking with me. it was warm out but not crazy hot. the cars were trying to move around ala madmax. i was dodging and weaving though the cars. my cell phone was out. citizens were directing traffic. New yorkers are incredible people and really banded together so well. i'm so proud of these people.

well, i had to walk all the way home to brooklyn, took me many many hours. but the good part was that with all the power out, i got to see the stars for the first time in the city.

I was in my "office" (it's more like a closet) on the 11th floor at 6th Ave and 44th St, in the middle of saving an Illustrator file when the power crapped out. The progress bar was half-way through the save, so who knows what that did to the file I was working on. Anyway, we didn't know if it was just our floor, our whole building, or what. So we looked out the windows and saw people in the next building looking back at us, and figured the same had happened to them. we packed up and headed for the stairs, only to find that the emergency lights weren't working, so we had to feel our way down 11 floors in pitch blackness.

Once out on the street it was pretty nuts. It was weird to see times square without all the lights and huge sceens working. I live in Jersey and normally take a bus home, but they weren't running so I decided to take a ferry. 5 hours later I was across the river in Weehawken, had to walk 2 miles to Hoboken, catch a bus to the train station, and wait for a bus going near my home to pull up. Total time from leaving work to getting home was 8 hours.

The most incredible sight of the whole thing was about half way across the river on that ferry, looking back and seeing a dark NY skyline.

Thats pretty nutz, its cool to hear it first hand instead of from the crazy new casters. Everytime I flipped to the news they where saying how it wasnt terrrism. It also rained in arizona so every news station was covering the amazing sprinkle of rain we were getting in every city. "Rain oh my god the worlds gonna end!!!"

Here in southern Ontario, most of the panic calls to radio stations were to check if bars and liqouer stores were open. Go figure :bash:

lol, that's the way every newcaster is in Arizona with rain. You'd think we were in the middle of a hurricane with the way they cover it. Oh well, it gives them something to be excited about. I enjoyed it, I sat on my patio all night and just listened to the rain and the thunder. I think I spent about 4 or 5 hours outside, it was pleasant.
