Firefly comic - Artist/Illustrator wanted

We at Virtual Firefly - www.stillflying.net are looking pretty seriously for an artist/illustrator to collaborate with on a comic in the Firefly Universe (a real Kick-Ass comic letting Dark Horse and Joss Whedon know we're here, and they better outperform us!). We've got professional and semi-professional writers on board with us - these guys have worked on real tv shows. These writers are amazing, and we have a few great scripts churned out by them already.

The problem is, we can't seem to find a decent comic artist/illustrator to give their words a life on the page. If you are interested to be involved as an artist/illustrator for Virtual Firefly, email me back at this email address. Please include roughly how much you would charge per page (A4, Black&White AND color), in $US.

Any artist that collaborates with us to create a comic will also get a creative say in what goes on script-wise. When the comic is published, the artist will also have advertised their skills to a massive audience - this project is already very well known and anticipated - and this, as ya know, leads to getting noticed by the folks that matter - job opportunities, getting found by Dark Horse/Marvel/DC... etc. It's happened before.

My one query would be do you intend to seek permission/a license from the owners of the trademark/copyright on the series to complete a continuation?

I note that Virtual firefly is a fan site and does not appear to have any affiliation with the series creator and in fact states that it is proceeding without permission. While professional comic book artists might produce single illustrations of well known trademarked characters for people, working on a continuation for a story already finished for pay is on rather shaky ground legally. So my question is do you have any plans to make your project legitimate?

I am currently doing a book for another party at $45 per page. Another party I just finished with paid me a monthly rate, eventually getting to the actual total in a year's time. This gives the company/party enough time to come up with the pay as he/she continues the book in his own time (after my illustrations).

I am very interested in doing some artwork for you. I am a very big firefly fan and always wanted to draw reavers. I have a dark side what can I say. I would charge from 15 to 50 to 200. It just depends on the illustration. For example if I do a full photo realistic painting of firefly or the crew that takes about 20 thirty hours it would be about 200. I go by 10 dollars and hour even though I will usually be working about 5 hours more then I charge. However, we can discuss a fair price. If I was not in need of paying work i would do some illustrations for free because i am such a huge Firefly fan. Late Nwagz
