Giants and Angels II

Wow, been a while since I've had anything completed. I feel good about finishing this.
Storyline:
It came for her.
A mass of flesh, limbs, and teeth.
It came towards her, up from the massive void below.
A monster of pure death.
It came to take her away.

A dream involving an angel and her death that seems to plague Cyanous (male figure).
Photoshop, roughly...ur...4 days worth of it.
Love to hear what you guys think. I'm also attaching a concept sketch I did of the creature, to get a better idea of its structure.

The way that the arms are painted make the image feel like a great watercolour painting, the fact that this is photoshop is very impressive.

Thank you all! I'm glad you enjoyed the image...it was quite the effort on my part after getting myself out of an art slump...I guess the patience and waiting was worth recharging my batteries for :)

I love the scale and feel of the piece. My only crit would be that those horns don't seem to sit right compared to the orientation of it's head.

It's hard to see because the whole head isn't visible, but it just doesn't feel right.

Lovely, lovely, lovely illustration. Fantastic use of composition and I adore the detail on the forearms, especially those tears and cuts.
I don't want to sound petty, but the hands nearest us seem a little foot like, this could be because we cant see the thumbs wrapping around the rock and that they almost have heels. I know its too late now, but perhaps if the first arm was rotated more outwards towards us, gripping the rock tightly it would help suggest power and handyness..:S

Sorry if this seems a little silly. I'm just trying to get my brain used to the whole crit thing. Id rather try and be useful than useless ^_^

Mr Man in reference to your comment, I can say that yes - it does look a bit more like they're feet rather than hands because of the missing angle in which we could view a thumb...but I also wanted that feeling -that he was "walking" with them...does that make any sense?

Colister, I know the rhythm is a bit "bleh"...I apologize for that :( Thank you for pointing it out, though! :)

Devil_slayer, I know the horns seem off, and it was tough to guess the right spacing for them...which is why I did the mini concept sketch to get a "feel" for myself what the horns were like. I'm sorry they didn't come across like they were supposed to...I'll remind myself...next time; extend the canvas and make it work ;)

This has a nice effect to it. Very different from most dramatic illustrations, yet it works very nice narratively. I really like the cool light color scheme and the seeming effortlessness of the composition. Very loose yet high quality composition.

The one thing that jars is the anatomy on the hands. They seem to be lacking in form, solidity, bones, tendons... They are still cool to look at, but anatomically bothersome. Also some of the fingers have slightly different colorings than others.

stunning color palette and mood, really well done!

A few minor issues I have with the hands...
I agree with kev about the somewhat funky anatomy, the repetitive pose of the palms takes away from the richness of the overall result.

having the palms face sideways while the forearms are drawn from a 3/4 back perspective flattens the depth of the image, IMO.

lastly, each fingernail resting on almost the same looking rock with almost same shadow makes the image feel less "spontaneous"? does that make sense? :)

too specific? I'm a nut for detail:) regardless the piece is very strong!
