Hey guys. Here is a page of thumbnails of pieces I would like to make into finished pieces for my portfolio, but I cannot decide which to do first! If you have any comments or critiques I would love to hear them! Thanks!

oh yeah, 4. Took me a few moments to notice the guy with the hovering spheres, but once i did, the whole thing came together. i also like 7 - quirky, cute in a nightmarish way.

Fantastic.
Depends what you're aiming for.
There's a lot of slick fantasy stuff on your website, and this one, but I would say you've got a GREAT style there for young childrens fiction. I work in that field. Have you ever thought of chasing that kind of work?
This thumbnail style would translate beautifully.
Have you seen Michael Sowa?
Best
For my money 1,4,5,7.
But 7 with a freakier angle and wierder lighting would be the killer.

3, 5 and 9 in that order too.

Hey, thanks everyone!
Seems like 4 is a favorite of most so far.
Jnorish: This is just pencil with a little white prismacolor and/or white-out on a toned paper sketchbook.
Thanks again!

4, 7, and 9...
Cool stuff. 4 is a tremendous perspective piece; very powerful and eye-catching. 7 really tells a story; makes you wonder what's going on. 9 does the same thing.
All of these drawings are great in the category of skill. But a lot of them are weak in the category of composition or storytelling. I wouldn't spend a lot of time finishing them all. But a few of them are definitely worth it, and will pay off for your portfolio.

Great sketches...all worthy of doing...
1+4+5 make a nice set = tour of a fantasy city - if you did 1 and 4 I would flip one of them - seem a bit similar in composition....
8 is kind of a done idea and all, but would sure be fun to do with the wickid lightsourcing...

mm... I think 3. I really like the way you made the creatures own hand go through itself, I've never seen anything like it before, it really catches the attention.

4 and 9 are my favorite.
What kind of sketchbook is that? I've been wanting to work on toned paper, so a sketchbook like that would be handier than buying a big sheet of paper.

I'd say 7 .. it's the only one that's not fantasy
I'm assuming from the thumbnails that most of your portfolio might be fantasy.. so you'll need something to mix it up a bit

mtw - I believe the brand is called "Earthbound"??? I am not positive though because I usually remove the label off of them after I buy them. They are made from recycled paper and are actually pretty good quality sketch-books. I feel like I can never go back to the old white paper anymore.
Sammy - Interesting that you say it isn't fantasy, but I guess I see what you are saying: you could imagine a scene like that in real life assuming some made a giant teddy-bear with teeth. In fact, when I have kids, maybe I will do just that! I think you are right though that I should mox it up a bit, which is why this sketch probably happened.
Thanks again

Yea sorry, I should've said "traditional Fantasy"...
In my opinion 7 is the most creative simply 'cause it's not churned out "traditional fantasy"... it looks like a crazy ass/scarry as hell childrens' book...
your stuff is great.. but I'm just trying to give some advice.. I don't know where you plan on sending your portfolio... but I do know that at one point I almoast got denyed a scholarship because I had ONE drawing of a robotic dragon in my 'folio...

I'd do 4, 7 and then 9. Number 7 really reminds me of Alice in Wonderland or something Neil Gaiman would write about.
