So I was at the art store and decided to buy some ink. I got some black with a calligraphy pen and it was pretty self explanatory, and I got some colours (red, blue, yellow, and white) and I am at a loss of how to colour with them. Like, do brushes work, can I mix them? Any tips are welcome as I'm looking forward to starting to work with something that is not grayscale.

Yes brushes work, yes you can mix them. If they're waterproof inks with a shellac base, make sure you clean your brushes thoroughly afterwards with soap and water or you'll ruin them. Most inks are made with dyes, so keep work done with them out of the light or they'll fade.

The rule of thumb is experiment!!! Dilute the colored ink with water, spatter the black with a toothbrush. Draw from life with the pen. Use the side of the brush. Try to make feathered strokes with the brush so they look beautiful. Experiment!
Remember, all three of these are ink drawings: Ralph Steadman (spatter), Frank Frazetta (pen and brush) and Berni Wrightson (pen)
