hey at least you are studying the right things. the best advice i can say it break from the book and draw from life, but remember what the book taught you.
good luck and ill check in

Great studies, looks nice, nice sketch technique with lines. As said before, you've soaked up the book, now apply it to life. It's tricky, it'll take more practice, you'll feel like you're making no progress for awhile drawing from life with what you drew from the book. But it'll sneak up on you and you'll be amazed on how much you've progressed over a period of time. It'll surprise you when you realize it. It's one of the joys of drawing.

Keep drawing til your hand hurts.

ok.. first off you have sandman in your profile, which automatically makes you cool... as for your sketches cubistic studies are always good but dont be afraid to add in some curves here and there...also mabey try some gesture drawing and animals

these are excellent studies. if your only 15 you will go places with yer skills. Try drawing some figures without references, you will find what areas you have problems with and then you can address them, jump back and forth. keep doing this untill it hurts and you'll get lots o' understanding o' the figure. you should also look at the skeleton - then add muscles.
keep up the good werk

wheew, considering you're only 15 you've got quite far indeed.
you're still a little bit bound to the bammes-style, but i have to admit that it looks awesome :)
the last two go away from that style a bit, yet they seem a bit unsure. maybe try doing more like that.

oh, and by the way... die "linke hand" is the "left hand", not the "link hand" ;)

prawda
September 15th, 2003, 07:29 AM
yes bammes is awesome ... i think there is a difference between the last two and the rest because i used much softer pencils for them and so i dont have to crosshatch the shadows ...

It looks to me that you're getting into some very good habits. You're focusing on what's real and you'll ultimately find that to be essential. Not only that but you're doing it every day. You're progress is showing too so you should be very encouraged! I've been taking life drawing classes for about a year now and I agree with a lot of the comments here. Observing what's infront of you is paramount. the only way to observe relationships between muscles, colors, light and dark is by studying them first hand and recreating them. Also, being able to walk around your subject in order to put it into context with it's composure and surroundings is an advantage that you won't get from books.

A trick that my professors showed me that you might find usefull, is to study with a renaissance aid. This is basically nothing more than a transparent projector sheet with a grid printed on it. When you buy them, they're loose so you might want try making a rigid frame out of card board so you can hold it by one corner or clip it to something stable in front of your subject. It might seem like a very boring and mathmatical approach at first, but in time you'll find yourself drawing living subjects much more naturally as your proportions correct themselves automatically.

Since you're only 15, I'd bet your getting an earlier start at life-drawing than most of us here. Certainly earlier than me. Keep up the great work and welcome aboard!

Looks like you have spent some time with Bammes books.
I teach anatomy at The Society of Figurative arts.
Check out the site for the school - I am starting to post demonstration
drawings from classes. I think it will interest you!
The past several weeks I have been drawing the figure from memory from at least 3 views i.e. front, back and side (the three graces) I think this is a great exercise and highly recommend it to my students.
Am also working on basic skull construction---look for posting on tsofa site in next few days

those concept drawings are a great way to improve on perspective while doing interesting stuff at the same time (well i bet you have more fun inventing spaceships than drawinh old chapels in the countryside, yea? :) )
you could give them more depth by shading some parts with markers, or digital.

hey, there's some great improvement from your first posts to these recent ones. I like your inkwork. The way you're applying value w/ pencil in this last post looks like they way one would work in ink, but I can't really offer much help cause I find myself doing the same thing (working the same in pencil and pen). Anyway, just keep drawing and you'll just keep getting better. nice stuff.

You've got a good grasp of shapes and light directions. In your portraits / faces the mouths are usually too small and the noses too long (which is due to using the standard scheme, I think). Also it seems that you get bored by rendering the hair. Take a look at how strands of hair form groups and how each have a light and shadow resp. dark areas.
Hope this helps.
