Was I given false information?

My little sister and I have always loved to draw. We would hang out in one of our rooms and draw together. I loved it, but I always felt so bad because she was so good and I just could never compare with her. I was going to try to get advice on how to become a better artist, but then I was told that if you are not born a good artist you will never be. Was I given false information? If so, do you have any advice on how I can get better?

Yes, you are screwed. You will never be a good artist if you aren't born without talent. Just like you'll never learn to drive a car, speak French or play Poker if you weren't born already knowing how.

Whoever told you that was a bitter, bitter person. Also, how do you define "good artist"?

1) Yes, you were given false information.
2) To get better, hang around here alot, study and practice frequently, post your work and listen to the advice you are given.
3) To get even better, draw every day, from both life and from imagination, but especially from life.
4) To get better than that, draw more every day.
5) To get even better, ...did I mention drawing every day?...from life?...

There is no easy road to being good at art, you must put in the time and effort and tears. Don't expect it to happen overnight, but if you are dilligent in your efforts, you will get better at it. And there are many people here who will give you the benefit of their wisdom along the way. Good Luck with your endeavor.

Somebody (I think it was a showjumper) said that success was 4% inspiration, 96% perspiration.

No guarantees in life; but no excuse to give up without trying, either. Keep trying, and then try some more, and then......

Yes. Never use comic sans for anything, ever. It's the lensflare of typography.

Much prefer Chiller, myself,- it's like Gothic Black; nobody can read the typos!

Woody Allen said 90% of life is showing up.

There is nothing wrong with comic sans that type-twister couldn't cure. :)

Anyway, being good at anything takes 99% hard work, and 1% natural predisposition.

There's no such thing as "talent", that word was created solely by individuals who do not have the drive to excel in something they have no true solid interest in, which also simultaneous degrades the hard work of professionals in the field, mystifies the process of becoming an artist, and gives incorrect information to young hopefuls who are too young to know any better than what they are told by someone who operated and thinks under these aforementioned incorrect notions of belief.

In a word, yes, you were given false information, but not intentionally, whoever told you that, just don't know any better.
