love this site its helped me a lot in my early years. I love all things obscure. I'm a big fan of nouvelle manga and indie comics, bizzare and shit too weird for the mainstream so I try to draw with those interests in minds.

I decided to purchase a scanner and now I have ceased lurking.
I'm 18 I wanna do this sort of thing for a living. the scanner was a graduation gift along with a tablet that hasn't shipped yet. I have a lot of unfinished stuff here I havn't painted anything but I hope
you can offer me some crits or comments on my pieces.
the huge portrait is the result of me spending 5 minutes in front of a mirror, one of 2 self portraits I've made in my life
I make graphic novels, some of the scans are excerpts from 3 different stories.

this is bed time story pages I'll post more of this later and I"ll type up the story when I complete the scripts

Looks like you're a lot stronger with your perspectives and enviros than your figures.
Taking an anatomy class is always the best thing, but also grab yourself an anatomy book and study the heck out of it.
Also, it's great to get your sketchbook and go to the park or cafe or wherever there are lots of people and use them as your subjects. Then you can learn how to draw people in more natural looking poses.

Julianna: thanks for the tip, I will try drawing from life, I've never really tried it though. most of it comes from imagination, I'll start off with anatomy books like you said.

showdownmetal: that building is a walled city of sorts. I'm about to revisit fantasy settings like that but I feel good doing more sci fi environments now.
but I'm really inspired by the architecture in final fantasy 12. wow, anyone else played that game?

more scans coming tommorrow, g'night

Yeah, I know what you mean about ff12. I didn't like it much, but it really made me feel like drawing. Not buildings, because that's not my thing (though it wouldn't hurt to practice ;D), but it made me feel like drawing clothes and figures from watching the characters run around. Basically the art direction was just awesome.

Anyway, yeah, that drawing with the perspective - the walled fortress - looks really cool so far. You're probably scared to touch it now since it's gotten such good responses, but I'd really love to see you work on it some more. And I like the faces that your figures have; I think you just need to get used to drawing ppl to understand their bones and their volume. But keep it up; I'm curious to see what else you can do.

Kudos! ;D

it could have been the best but the story sucked ass. and theres no fantasy without a solid story.

some new scans, I'm still working on them but I just thought I'd unload them and update their progress later

The one thing i'd say was make your lines neater.
Cause all of the lines going eerywhere the way you've drawn them makes it kinda hrd to see he whole object of the drawing, lol.
Other than that i'd say youve got some really god ideas And i like it

:)

Echoing Venom said, yeah, your lines are pretty rough and fuzzy. Try using either a non photo blue pencil or a harder pencil for your under drawing and then neatly go over the lines with a softer pencil.

It's good that you're already thinking dimensionally, especially if you're going to be doing a lot of storyboards.

And as always, study study study anatomy!

You've got some great potential, man. Keep drawing!

these are my most recent life drawings. I drew these at borders on I 10. if any of you live around san antonio, let me know if this looks familiar.
sometimes I wish I could shoot some of these ppl so they would stay still and let me draw them, haha.

the 1st one was lucky. I gave this young man 5 dollors to stay put in that position.

hey mate your work is very interesting you are about at my level. I just came across your life drawing and although I am pretty in-experienced (just joined yet to set myself up) I have some suggestions as i am currently studying life drawing at uni/collage. Looking at your forms the first thing I see is a lack of attempts at construction lines. For me I made sure I mapped my figure with a line that defined the path of the spine and then two lines one for the angle of the hips and another for the angle of the shoulders. You will find yourself much less lost on the paper and with a stronger anatomy if you start doing this. Also draw some simple skeletons to understand a pose before you jump into it. I am finding the greater I understand anatomy and what goes on beneath the skin my works get alot better. There is alot to think about when u are life drawing and most of the time I find myself tired after a 3 hour class as you are constantly thinking so make sure you are constantly thinking. Also stand back regularly from your work as the form develops as it can help you spot mistakes.

Good luck and I will be watching your sketchbook and hopefully get some of my work posted up soon for you to look at!

I really enjoy seeing process pieces and rough sketches. You have a very nice energetic quality to your lines. A bit of critique. It seems you think in silhouette particularly on your figures. That is fine however to convey the form convincingly you should have the underlying knowledge of the anatomy. I am by no means an anatomy god myself and this is something I struggle with a lot. When I do get stuck I usually turn to 2 things(if a model is not present). I look at George Bridgeman and Bernini. It will really help give you the 'oh thats how it goes' insight into the structure of the human figure. I use Bridgeman to give me the architecture and Bernini to remind me that human beings are not buildings. Cheers and happy drawing!
