Hi Everyone,

After all the compliments and kind words I received when I posted my sculpture of Bruce Timm’s take on Frank Millers the Dark Knight Returns I thought I would share with you all a version of the sculpt I also created in CG. The model was modelled and lit in Maya and was textured to look like the original in Photoshop. I have also shared with you a wireframe version so you can see the distribution of polygons.

If you are new to this thread then please see my pervious post “The Dark Knight Returns” for images of both the original sculpture and Bruce Timm’s design concept.

As always comments are welcome.

while I like how you transported your great sculpt into 3d, I think you lost some important dynamic in the head / neck.
When comparing your originial sculpt with the 3d mesh, the head on the sculpt much more follows the rhythem of the shoulders and spine, on the 3d mesh it looks to packed.

I just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with this. So often in the world of model building the more details you get, the more cool points are awarded. Most of the time "shape" is locked in the closet while daddy goes out on the town with that "texture".
This batman sculpture is true to the design that inspired it, but more than that it enhances it. The shapes you've built improve upon the design rather than take away from it. So yeah, nice work. Keep up this energy

I really love this, the only thing I'm not that keen on is the shape of the feet - but that's totally just personal preference. I'd love to animate this guy, you can really see how he would move just by looking at his shape and physique.
