Hi there

I've recently discovered a very nice way to kill your free time in weekend. It is Air Soft Gun. For people who are not familiar with the subject it's a paraphrase of "Join the army, meet many interesting people & kill them", except 'joining the army' ;-)

ASG is something like Paintball but we're using ASGs (BBguns in the US) which are firing a 6 milimiter plastic balls without any paint. So fair-play is the basic rule here. The second difference is that everything is based on realistic terms - clothes, guns, rules of skirmishes. It's not a computer simulation with no spawn points and bazookas flying around ;-)

How does it work? It's simple - you have a for instance M16 ASG replica whith a shooting range around 60 metres, proper military clothes, eye-protecting gear and you're ready to go! Just meet with your friends in appropriate place, set up a terms of skirmish (ViP protection, 1on1 squad combat or maybe some scenario from history books) and you're ready to go. Atmosphere is fantastic, you can really feel 'adrenaline bumping inside you'.

Two days ago we have organised a huge 'history based' action: destroying the german factory in Norwegia in 1942. Two sides - British vs Germans. Well - terrain was smaller and we didn't spent 3 month on that operation but it gathered more than 70 guys. I was in British recon team, we've taken many casualites but we succeded: found the 'fabrik' and supported our demolitions team then succesfully evacuated.. adrenaline, guns, bugs, mosquitos and wonderfull forest in the summer - it's all there. Amazing experience!

Of course we were dressed like now-a-days and used modern gun replicas of M16, Ak-47 and so on. I've had a SCAR (that's a nextgen replacement of M16) myself!

In Poland ASG's becoming more & more popular. Maybe because lot of us here are military nuts, maybe 'cause it's a lot of fun.

If you are interested how crazy lads look like in Poland, well, here is a link to the photos from that operation. I'm that guy sucking the camel's back pipe:-)

Hope you enjoyed it!

Cheers & SemperFi ;-)

What is "spare time"?

Yes, you could. But you may call it 'doing a research' ;-)

2100 has the right idea. If one is dedicated to going pro.. the Weekends= painting time. Like Magic Man said, where do you get this so called, "Free" time?

To an extent.. your art will be flavorless if you never see the outside world. Sometimes you need to get out and see life. I've seen guys on here like DSIllustration talk about his paintball hobby, and no one will dare say shit to him. Don't get me wrong, hardwork is the biggest part of art, in my opinion, but doing nothing but studies indoors everyday will make your work stale and heartless, IMO. I guess my point is to ease up a bit, and sometimes it's not such a good thing to act so elitist to anyone who's ever done anything with his life outside of drawing fruit in still life all day.

Thanks Interceptor.

I was afraid that skiing in winter, windsurfing in the summer holidays, biking, swimming, jogging and so on... even having sex will stop my progress of being a better CGpainter ;-)

I'm painting for pleasure guys - I'm not chasing in some kind of ratrace. But that's offtopic.

Anyway - ASG is great fun.

Sorry.

I think it was because he said "kill time", as opposed to "have fun" =P

I go out fairly often, but I'm observing stuff wherever I go.

Yep, the kill time thing got me too.

Just for the record, I love paintball, and target rifle shooting which I participate in fairly regularly, heck, I even have a gun licence and an order pending on a Tippman A5 with custom add-ons to make it look like an mp5.

Woodsball is where its at.

I went paintballing on Saturday with another 7 mates.
Despite the steep cost, its kickass, especially out doors.
I like the idea of woodsball( playing in a big field), but the small courses are really great fun especially if the incentive is free paintballs( like capture the flag, but with paint)

I dont think we have airsoft in Aus, do you have to buy the guns and equipment yourselves? I hear ammo is cheap though.

Magic Man, where do you play? Keipo(sp) Forest?

As i'm been growing up on the country... and as there was no internet there, no television ( yeh there is in form of a black and white head-ache giving surface that moves ...) I got a lot of guns... Air Guns, Paint Ball guns, Soft Air Guns ..
I guess paint ball guns are the once that hurts most and are most fun to play with :/ But Soft air guns is what everyone else have ( they are cheaper ), so I game more with those now when I live in a bit more populated place then before...

Heh, I only thought that fake-guns were popular up here and down in poland/czech/slovakia hehe

Yeah Imo Paintball better, even though it's the most expensive sport ever created. Airsoft doesn't give you that adrenaline rush because it doesn't hurt when you get hit with them, unless you get those MASSIVE airsoft guns.

I used to do paintball but we always did it when it was so hot, my cardio sucked, and seeing as how I had to take off my glasses so they wouldn't fog up, it was not quite worth it.

The one time we did it in the dead of november with painting-suits on was by far the best. All the snow meant being able to leap from otherwise dangerous positions, plus we were wearing enough clothing to make sure most of it didn't hurt too much.

All work and no play blah blah blah. As long as you're having fun and have a nice balance...

my girl and i find ways to 'have fun' AFTER we put in our art time. we go places and sketch for hours or pose for and help each other at home. then we go do something active. swimming pool, biking, rock climbing, martial arts.. those things help keep our minds clear so we can better focus on art when we get back to it..

but in all fairness art is more of a hobby for us, not a career path so we're not as pressured with it. - JAG

Yeah man Kuitpo is great, I don't go as much as i used to, but there is a club starting up now, they play I think last weekend of every month.

Once you have your gun licence and own marker and gear, it's not that expensive, if you get your own paintball, you can get 2000 rounds for like $40 bucks, which is shitloads.

2000 rounds for $40 is hell cheap, we had to pay 20$ for a 100 paintballs which is ridiculous.
Also, how much does a marker cost, I would really like to get into it, but it isnt exactly cheap:$

There's a little bit of this stuff happening here (NZ), but it's not really big.
Paintball is great fun, but comes at a high price.

yeah, paintball is hella expensive, still trying to organise somthing with some mates, we keep getting sidetracked and never get around to organising it. It sucks they banned BB's in aus, i thought you could still get them around in some places.

picked up an awsome airsoft deagle when i was over in japan, had heaps of fun shooting stuff (my pal kenji mostly, it was all good tho :P), came back through sydney, unfortunatley didn't make it back to melb with me T_T , they also took my friends shuriken too

You'd probably best wait a few years to really get into it mate, to get markers, you're required to have a class A/B firearms licence which you can only get after you're 18.

Also, a decent marker costs $300 without air and all the other get up.

Its an expensive sport, but it is damn enjoyable.

That depends on if your own teammate doesn't shoot you in the back of the head from literally 15 feet away...yes, this happened :er: .

or in the throat from 15 feet in front of you.. yeah that happened.

I love paintball pals who don't know what the hell they're doing.
