Heres something i did in my sketchbook the other week.

As with all my sketches i just keep drawing from whatever comes outta my head, so anatomy n armor n all that is purely 'on the fly' hehe.

Hope ya like it, coz its prolly one of my fav peices in my sketchbook atm ;)

Pretty good..

A few things I noticed.

- he's leaning over sideways.. This doesn't look very good on him being a warlord and all. It looks like he's drunk. :)

- Both his left arm and leg are pointing forward. For a little more balance try using leftarm - righleg combinations (and vice versa) Nobody walks with both the left arm and left leg forward. (check your self)

I also wondered what the things on his shoulders are.

Cheers

Hi gray, thanx for ur reply, u made some interesting comments that i shall take up and try b mindful of next time i do a sketch like this one.

He's kinda meant to be leaning towards you like he's coming after you but i guess it looks more like he's stumbling round trying to find his lost bottle of soy-rum, hehe. But i was trying to make it look like he was undead at the same time (like he was some ancient reanimated samurai warlord) but i spose i didnt give enough hints at that did i? I'll try do better next time :) Thnx for ur crits :D

PS - Those things on his shoulders? I dunno? I made them up thinking of something i saw in final fantasy 10 but i couldnt quite place it, ahwel . .

Have you seen the animatrix if not I would look at one in particular "Program" It has some of the best samurai armour i have seen in a very long time. (download it for free here (http://www.intothematrix.com/) ) Thought maybe that it would be a good reference, it just popped into my mind when i saw your piece.
I really like your guys mask. any way keep it up. You should ink it maybe, i have found that it can be really usefull, if you have the possibility, to photocopy your drawing and make several diffrent versions of it, that way you are in no danger of screwing it up (like i have done to mine so many times).

Thnx Red, i've seen that animatrix epi . . oooooh man its SO good! :> I think i'll do alot more research in costume designs n stuff b4 i sketch anymore samurai's.

As for photocopying i think i'll just leave it in my sketchbook . . its just a sketch so i want it to just stay there as part of my sketchbook. If i like a sketch or an idea sometimes i flesh it out and make a more well refined sketch on A3 paper. I've got a few i've done and scanned and attempting to paint in PS atm so we'll c how they go ;)
