Wow! Bra greier her!

Now for some gun concepts :) think I'll do more stuff like that.
Also some sketches from my little black book :)

Enjoy

Your sketchbook is looking great. The vechicle sketches is really interesting, I would like to see a fully rendered version of one of them sometime.

On your last picture the characters head seems to be a bit too thin, but apart from that it's looking great. Keep up the good work!

why the hell do all the pics I upload here get less saturated!?!? Its pretty anoying..

DStraX
November 13th, 2008, 04:05 PM
i said there would be a big uppdate. and there was :)

Mischeviouslittleelf
November 14th, 2008, 12:01 PM
Hey man, these later ones are getting better and better! Keep up the good work, I think I can answer the saturation question thing for ya. They do not actually get less saturated, but when you work in PS you might have the fullscreen on, and the contrast of the black against the image makes the rest of the colours pop more. Even so I had that same problem meself.

So for a few pointers. You should really do some hard core skeletal studies, just to really get to the basics, try also to be more deliberate with your strokes, so that every one has a intentfull direction and emphasis:)

Wow you've improved loads and so fast. The quick acrylic painting has a fantastic energy and colour to it. I really like the quick draw skull face man! I think you have a great loose expressive style. Is that what you are going for or you going for a more realistic style?

DStraX
November 19th, 2008, 05:17 AM
Baggend Thanks, thats good to hear :) I actualy wanted the the skull face gun man to look expressive:) sort of a frank miller style, but not black and white :P

another painting of the girl I paint at school. this one I only used cmyk colors on. I think it looks kinda cool^^

I do have more stuff i want to show you, but it will have to wait til i get home.

Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook yesterday
You've a real nice sketchbook here man. A real good mix of digital and contemporary pieces, couple of great waters and paints. Couple of things I have noticed you really need to star some anatomy studies... but don't we all :D. Also just quickly when you paint a landscape you should try out the calligraphy brush very handy when your doing things like rocks or planes ect. Love your acrylics or oils I'm not sure what they are... but they are awesome. Your Steam punk robot is coming along nicely to. Get job all round I guess :D.
Keep it up!

Ellers ser greiene bra ut, fortsett å jobbe! :D

DStraX
November 27th, 2008, 04:45 PM
l0stinth0ughts Thanks:) ill try to work on my lines. just dont know how...

November 28th, 2008, 06:15 AM
Great stuff, man! but when painting, I'd try using more solid strokes instead of laying thin layers on top of each other to alter the color... I dunno, perhaps that's just what I prefer :P

Anyway, great stuff! And keet it coming :)

hey there! I like what I see here!! really cool Ideas around! you´re on your way

about the enviros you´re doing…I think the biggest problem is the digital painting…you really gotta be into it…because a good enviro-composition is really trrickiii… well, for now It´s probably good to stick to photo-studies (painting from postcards?)

anyway, I am veeery newbie…I´m learning myself……I´ll shut up now…
cheers

heisann. takker for kommentarer i min SB :)

Steampunk greia du laget tidligere virket litt kaotisk.

December 5th, 2008, 10:24 PM
Hey man that last one is great. keep up studies like that. eventually you will begin to do them quicker and more accurate.try to limit yourself to not spend more than a few hours on one. Its usually better to just move on to something else by that point, unless your dead set and creating a super clean render or are working on a complex image. Your already doing the right kind of studies. The ones in post 67 look great. Keep it up and you'll improve in no time

Jamesy
December 7th, 2008, 01:18 AM
There's some good stuff here, especially your last creepy portrait image. At this stage I wouldn't worry too much about how long you spend on a painting just as long as you make it right. Gradually you'll get faster because you'll know what to do because you spent time to learn it correctly initially. Wow, that was a terrible sentence...Keep up the good work!!

December 18th, 2008, 08:43 AM
okay that enviro looked kinda weird to be honest. It looks like a miniature model with some toy army men playing around or something :) You need to work on depth and different ways to handle perspective. Some use saturation, some use perspective lines and some use that depth of field camera look. In a typical war scene you could enhance perspective with fog or smoke.
The positive and negative values in the painting are too similar that nothing really suggests depth. Take a look at this (http://picturechina.net/wp-content/myimages/2006/10/China100306_118.jpg)pic and see how those buildings look. It is quite an extreme pic of china, but it illustrates the point.

1. Det skrives "surely" ikke "shurley"

Jo bedre du blir, jo raskere blir du. :)

DStraX
March 13th, 2009, 05:26 PM

Hey I really like the sketchbook pages. The life drawing and figures and improving steadily! Don't cheat yourself on the rendering. Focus on planes and describe edges from one end of the line to the other within the form. The digital stuff is great! I like guns and medieval stuff too, good to see it here.

Keep doing it!

March 20th, 2009, 08:48 AM

i really dig your pencil sketches and anatomy studies.
you're going in the right direction--keep studying and working hard!

lennon
March 20th, 2009, 10:38 AM
Hey, the gun looks terrific, and I do think that you're evolving. But perhaps you're doing an awful lot of things at the same time. You should focus instead in crossing parts of the body out of your list.
You ask about anatomy, but you should focus strictly in getting the right proportions and good rythm in you figures first. Decompose the subject into simpler shapes and get the perspective of things right. When one doesn't do so, things, like for example the eyes of a head, seem okward, as they do not really align.
Use construction lines, and make 3d everything, and this will give you the right perspective. You'll notice that every pro out there construct everything in this very way.
I would study the figure as simpler as possible with correct gesture, the head in every position, and hands doing as much as you can think.

DStraX
March 22nd, 2009, 05:49 PM

You have a nice range from creatures to industrial designs to anatomy sketches here but not much finished pictures (which I guess is ok since this is a sketchbook). Anatomy seems to be shaping up but the sketches seem kind of impatient. Try refining them until the shapes seem perfect and you'll get an eye for what's off.

I really like the female face and hands here (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=612892&d=1236474076) and the new painting in colour. I don't get the murky lighting on the figure though.

You're improving alright, keep it up! :)

i saw in your sketchbook title it says you need pointers on anatomy. I've been brushing up on my anatomy a little lately and have found that one of these (http://www.freedomofteach.com/products/figures/figure_male_2) is indespensable for learning muscles, where they attach and their insertion points. I bought mine a few years ago when they first came out and reference it whenever i have any questions about exterior muscle anatomy.

If you can't get one now, that's fine, but if you ever get a chance to grab one for cheap, it's definitely worth it if you really want to get your anatomy down pat.

I always dig colour studies, and paintings, mainly 'cause I can't do myself. hehe.
I like a few silhouettes in here, and some of those guns look fun to flesh out. You should.
[I'm subscribing right now. You're probably the 100,000 I've subscribed to. :P]
Keep churning them out mate. [Back to work] :)

I think you are improving relatively fast, because from page 1 to page 7, I think there is already an improvement in your work. It looks more confident, cleaner, more controlled.

hey there DStraX really nice poses; and the weapon/vehicle designs rock too.
#215 is really nice and I think it deserves more finish. color or detail either way.

I find your methodology interesting, how you choose to make the gestures in color, switching it while working (maybe?) and making these big sheets of poses, which are interesting to see as a whole as much as they may be for each individual pose, if not more.

You also jump from one technique to another, and I'm sure they are leeching into each other, helping define how you illustrate, but it is also making it a little hard to critique you in an attempt to focus you on your more problematic areas.

I'll subscribe and hopefully give you something better next time you post :)

Take what anyone says with a grain of salt, and if you feel the need to experiment, keep doing it.

What is this thing you are painting? I like the colors, but not the fact that I don't understanding the reasoning behind it, and I think it could use a closer crop.

I'd like to take sculpture. I'm thinking next summer, along with printmaking, glassblowing, typography. This year it's California for a short visit, and back home :)

Try to block in major shapes before working out the detail, it will be easier to fix and will make things look more uniform

Stop updating, Tim, I don't need the extra work of critting you! ;)

I think when you sketched these your were more concerned with the composition on the page than with each study, which I think misses the point a little.

I think the anatomy studies on the bottom right what you should do more, look to give more fluidity to your figures.
