Hi all,

Just registered and first post.

I've been trying to combine 2 of my interests, art and astronomy. Have set up this web site http://midnightskys.com would really appreciate your comments. Have sold a few works but not enough to give up the day job :-(

Regards

Paul

CCD? I find astronomy brilliant, it's interested me for a very long time, a sort of mentor used to be an astronomer.

The thing is we'd much rather you posted a few pictures (don't worry, they only have to jpegs, so fairly lowish quality) and we looked at them from a sort of compositional point of view. We're not great fans of things being advertised here from the beginning, especially without anything else to accompany the advertisement.

You've shown up here, and made a thread linking to your shop, and haven't really given us any pieces of access composition or content wise. That's what we want to do, we don't want a commercial advert and only a commercial advert here. Just a word of warning on that, last time someone tried this he also came along with a very cocky attitude, didn't last long, so I suppose it won't go that bad with you.

What I'm saying is take a few photos to show us, without monetary purpose. You could still sell them on your site, just we'd quite like to see them too.
Maybe take a few photos from your site and show them here as low/mid-end jpegs.

Also, best of luck on the shop.

Thanks Rob,

Hadn't thought of it like that, my apologies. have attached (hopefully) a couple of jpegs. The first is called "Genesis" and is of the "Trapezium" a group of four new born stars in the orion nebular the second is "Alberio Entwined" and is a binary star system in the consellation Cygnus, the swan, its eye in fact. Don't know how they'll look!!!!

I love Astronomy - so much in fact that im going to be earning a degree in Astrophysics in three years.

Are your works originally drawn or photomanipulations of released government images?

Some of them i really like and are quite nice. They mostly have an inverted feel to them (in the contemporary section). Some are quite neat although others look like simple photoshop filters which i dont find as impressive.

I really like End of Saturian Days - its my favourite of the site. I also quite like the moon pictures.

Oh and just a thought - one of the images is a galaxy and the title is "a hundred million stars" - i dont want to come across as pompous as its a title and you can call it whatever you like, but in our galaxy the number is around 100 billion stars.

Thanks for the comment,

They are all my own original images captured by me using CCD cameras and scopes some, as you say, have been manipulated after. The images are composites of various exposures, between a few seconds and several minutes.

I too love astronomy and also doing a astrophyics degree part time (hard work)

There are lots of people out there taking beautiful images of galaxies etc, mine would be just one more, so I thought I would add the "twist", happy that you liked a couple of them
