Not bad at all for a first. My advice: stay away from soft-edged brushes for now. Also, stick with reference photos that are more contrasty--the photo you're working off of is washed out from the use of the flash. If you're going to paint people from photos, try to take the photos with more natural-looking light.

You're coming along nicely!

One thing, in order to make the shiny parts of the hair look shiny, you have to make the dark parts of the hair look dark so it makes a nice contrast. The dark parts of the hair in your drawing are a little bit too light colored.
