Hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone could help me. I am looking for a rake tool that has notches in it that is used to flatten out areas. "They" say that you can make these by cutting notches in a regular smooth rake using a dremel but I don't have a dremel to do this.

Can you buy a rake with the notches in it somewhere? Can you make them somehow without a dremel?

Anything is much appreciated!
Thanks,

I have in the past modified my ‘smooth wire rake’ tool by 'nipping' into it's straight edge with the 'cutting' blade from a pair of 'pliers'
the cutting blade leaves the smooth wire rake with defined ridges/teeth which when pulled over the clay rakes the surface.

But please be warned DO NOT NIP THE PLIERS TO HARD ONTO THE WIRE OTHERWISE YOU MAY CUT THE WIRE IN TWO.

Another good rake substitute tool I have discovered are inexpensive toothbrushes, the traditional type with a flat surface, to clean the toothbrush i us turps and allow it to evaporate.

Before there were Dremels, we used primitive tools from the stone age called files. Triangular cross section is best, but there are also circular and rectangular versions. The smallest versions are called Needle Files, but any triangular size would work. Local hobby, crafts, hardware stores everywhere...

There are notched trowels or hand scrapers in hardware stores used for applying adhesive. The clay wouldn't scrape away like it does over the metal strip on a rake, but they might still work.
