hello, this is my first post, i'm rather new to the whole digital painting idea. just got a tablet and everything. anyways, i drew a couple of thumbnails (roughly 3x3in each) and i wanted to try to paint them in photoshop. but i really have no idea where to start :( . i know they dont look amazing, but they were quick sketches and i didnt put a lot of detail in them. i'm going to attempt to paint them in photoshop, but any advice on how to begin would be helpful.

First of all welcome. I always start out by making up a colour palette whether it be on the same picture or whether it be on another file around 500px by 500px if not less. Then block in some colours (it's usually best to start with the midtones). Block in shadows and highlights going into more detail as you go along. Carry on doing this until your happy. Then add your details and any last touches. This is just a very simplistic description of how I PERSONALLY digitally paint. Try looking up some tutorials for help aswell as looking at other WIP threads to see how others digitally paint. Good luck.

yah, still trying it on them, i'm sure with some practice i'll get better at it. i'm just starting to think that machines aren't a good subject matter for me to start on, perhaps more organic pieces will work out better.

Well whatever you feel confortable with. Don't forget you have to enjoy art. Have some passion and a little bit of patience, no-one learns overnight. Best of luck mate.
