Hey guys, I've been coming here a couple weeks now and LOVE this site! I can't believe the caliber of artists here, AMAZING!
I thought I'd post something and see what some real artists think.
First off, I'm not a kid or student (32). I've been drawing my whole life for fun and the only study I've done is independent. My dream job would be doing character concepts for a studio or comic related work.
Anyway, let me know what you think.
This is a piece I did with the new Incredible HULK movie in mind... I based this off of Dale Keown's HULK from the first movie since his HULK's are usually the best. I tried interpretting Edward Norton's facial features into it while keeping a HULK look to it and making it look a little more savage then the first one... I did this in pencils and ink and then painted it in PhotoShop. I know its far from perfect but it is what it is...
I also designed the TIH logo which I wanted to give an urban beat up look.

It looks like you have a handle on the medium, but the anatomy is in trouble atm. His left arm is short, not going back into space. His biceps are in the same space and take up the same amount of room on both arms, so it throws off the whole idea of his elbow going behind him. Revisit this area, and consider other poses for the arm. Also, his head is awfully small, even for the hulk. Try making it a bit bigger, and maybe even spend sometime rethinking the placement of the facial features. Anyway, looks good so far! Good luck in your continuing efforts, and welcome to the site!

Thanks! I appreciate it... LOL, HULK's head is an ongoing topic of discussion in HULK forums. I am part of the population that feels his head should be smaller then the proportions of his body. As far as the facial features that part was painstaking... I actually redid his face in PhotoShop after realizing the proportions of the original weren't even and in scale. The eyes are a tad too far apart. His arms were also an area that I wasn't real happy with...
I wanted shorter arms in the pic so as not to do the whole gorilla look. I was also wanted to show both the thickness and width so I did the different positions of the arms.
Anyway... Thanks, I knew it wasn't perfect but was curious to see what opinions would be here. I'm just glad you didn't say it sucked, LOL!

Here's a sketch I did with the proportions as I wanted... Yes, a smaller head. What do you think of the anatomy as far as accuracy?
Thanks
(I'm not used to doing managing attachments, are image links bad?)

The anatomy looks far more correct in this picture, that being said, the left arm is only slightly longer than the left. Also, not to be rude or innappropriate, but he has no crotch. At all. The legs and torso kind of converge to a single point. >.<
Just something to be aware of if you're trying to get your anatomy completely correct. :/

The Second picture is better in terms of anatomy, but I feel like you need to better define the way his arms attach.
On your image, the bottom of his arms seem to attach to the middle of his ribcage area, the line needs to be pulled up a bit so it points back at the shoulder. His armpit is almost at his waist.
Take a look at these images of freakishly muscular people. Notice that despite having lots of muscel their armpit is still at the normal height it would be.

My 2 cents.

The muscular dude on the bottom is so disgustingly creepy that it ruins the thread! UNPOST!!!

Thanks guys! This was exactly the types of responses I was hoping for! On other forums I've found answers that are only offensive and not helpful at all... LOVE this site!
LOL, yeah that second guy is quite disturbing if real... That has to be PhotoShopped, LOL!

It's not photoshopped, that image came from an article about Myostatin deficiecies
FYI, myostatin is a growth factor that controls muscel growth, sometimes people and animals that are born without it have muscels that grow to grotesque size
Here's the article: http://www.who-sucks.com/people/monstrous-myostatin-misfortunes-a-collection-of-myostatin-deficiency-pictures

This is not a pitbull it's a whippit, you know one of those grey hound like dogs...
That last picture of the guy, myostatin deficiency + bodybuilding .
So no... it should be real.

Never bugged me lol. Thought it was an interesting pic. That is insane though, and the dog is pretty crazy too! He looks like he could take down an elephant!

The photo of the second bodybuilder is photoshopped. The website only gives that picture as a possible result of somebody with an extreme myostatin deficiency lifting weights. Also even if the website said it was real, I follow bodybuilding, and believe me I would be well aware of a man as highly developed as that. On top of all of that the picture is absolutely absurd, the man's waist is not even wide enough to have the mechanical advantage of supporting his upper body, and what happened to the muscles through his abdominal area? Why aren't they freakishly huge?

you have some very nice line control!
but everything even your most dynamic hulk pose...is flat as a card
i siad pretty much the same in your more recent post.
i love comics as well..but this path will lead you no further ...im sure you must feel stuck. its the comics, man...put them in their mylar bags and box'em up in the closet with the colectables.
i love 'em to ...Especialy the hulk ...who wouldnt..
but 3-dimensional thinking is the only way your art will improve at all from this stage on.
there are often FREE life drawing workshops at every colege or adult education
and they are fun as hell!

Cool! Thanks KingShaj for the wordup, I've been trying to move in that direction. I study 3-d renderings and also just installed Z-Brush on my pc (though I haven't starting figuring it out yet). I'm gonna post a couple real pencils I did on 11X14 art boards instead of these pics I've done on printer paper to get comments, this site is really helpful and I appreciate all the comments!

Sorry for the confusion i did not mean 3-d as in 3d graphics,
but 3d in the REAL world.
Draw from life...people in poses in the room with you, walk around them 360 degrees
Figure drawing workshop.
trust me in 2 months you will look at your current drawings the way we see them....and that feeling when you make a big jump like that..is worth it.
weve all been right where you are now. half of us make the change the other half...well they always need more cab drivers.

LOL! Cab-drivers!! no, IT guys... That's what I am!
I knew what you were saying as far as 3 dimensional, the same applies to all mediums unless I'm missing something?

It applies more to the world of drawing than any other medium.
because it is the easiest to forget the 3rd dimension. as you have
One has to work a little harder to create the illusion of depth.
Trick the eye.
Just as in IT being stubborn about your process gets you nowhere...you must adapt and evolve constantly improving your knowledge...if old solutions don’t work....you stop using them immediately or you get fired
