I need your help CA!

In one month's time, 23 August, I have a preselection for one year of artclass at HKU (local university of fine arts, Utrecht, Holland).
This preselection or selection requires me to bring along my own created work (such as drawings, sketches, paintings, 3d art, sculptures, photo's and stuff) and consists of the reviewers taking my stuff and reviewing it behind closed doors (without me present, I think) to see if I have enough 'creative talent' for me to take part in those classes.

I'm really psyched but I don't have a battleplan. They didn't give me any assignments to do them prior to the selection\interview. And I'm kinda out of ideas. I've been trying to draw at least one hour a day the past few months from reference. But I need to step it up, too bad I still have to work like 40 hours a week.

So I have like a month and a few days to really build up a diverse portfolio mainly consisting of drawings and (digital)paintings.

Does anyone have a step-by-step or something like a battleplan in creating pieces to make sure you have the most common pieces in your portfolio?

In order to show you how much work I need to do I can post some sketches. Beware, they're amazingly bad compared to the highlevel of quality here on CA.
So let me know about posting images, and much thanks for your help!!! :yayca:

ps: didn't know which forum would be best so don't hurt me for it...

Yes, post images. It's always better to get specific advice.

Start a sketchbook thread in the Sketchbooks forum and add the link to your signature.

You can also post in the WIP & Critique Center forums for specific pieces.

You have one month to get a portfolio together?

Buddy, I think you've left it far too late if you say your stuff is pretty weak.

True, I didn't really know if I was being entered for that interview. They really kept me in the dark until last friday.
Guess I'm screwed then.
Thanks anyways for the comments.

no man don't do that - don't blame it on someone or something outside yourself. i would say 'hope for the best but plan for the worst' (but here it seems you got what you wanted - you got in for an interview and a shot at whatever it is you are going for).

having said that - you can still do drawings all day every day till you have the interview. lock out all internet/friends/other shit and just go wild. stop two days before the interview and take an outsiders look at your own stuff and pick the best 10/20 pieces. you got nothing to loose, if you don't go, or don't do anything you will not get in. if you do a shit load of drawings you might not get in either, but at least you'll have tried. you'll be amazed at where just not chickening out will get you sometimes...

good luck and have fun man. enjoy the crunch.

you may well be surprised to see what CA can do for you in a mere month, provided you invest the right amount of effort and hard work.

My apologies for being such a spammer, but follow the "Concept Art 101" link in my sig. And good luck.

Wow, thanks for the replies and sorry for not replying earlier.

tensai: I think you're right, your words really hit the spot I guess. And I know that I'm the one to 'blame' although I got what I wanted. The course actually entails an increased learning experience at a pre-university level. So you don't have to be technically good (that's what you're gonna go work at) but you have to show you have some creative talent, enough to be accepted. It's a pretty popular course and I really look forward to the classes but I have to be accepted first. But I think its crunch time indeed. Chickening out was not my idea though, I understand my last post came across that way. I was still gonna work my ass off.

Brendan N: Thanks, I've calculated how much time I have besides work and housework.
Everyday, except thursdays and saturdays, I get home from work around 17:30. Then I eat, because well, I love to eat. After that, including washing the dishes and having a social talk with my parents (yes, I still live with my parents at age 25, what can I do, Indian-culture type thing) I sit down at my computer at around 18:30. So I have from 18:30 till 22:00 (or 23:00) the time to practice and come up with some pieces I'm happy about and I can explain why I did that or what drove me to create it.
And sundays, I have the whole day. Should this be enough time?

Seedling: Thanks, I'm definately (spelling?) gonna go read that.
