Ron, TinyHands, others, I had a few quick questions. I know this should go into the schools forum, but I'm not too sure how of how many read it. I've been interested in Watt's Atelier for a little while and I was wondering what the average tuition cost is per year and what I could expect for living expenses (Travel, Rent, etc)? It's just a general inquiry, I'm working 50+ hours a week right now for school money and I need some idea on where I should be saved up to before I attempt any kind of move to San Diego, thanks.

I was looking into going to school in CA, but theres no way I could afford to live there without working 40+ hours a week, and I dont think I could do well in school working that much and be able to stay on top of my classes..

I found the class prices on their website (DUH!!). I'm having trouble finding out what the average monthly living expense in the San Diego area is, especially around Encinitas. I think this is my only problem spot and probably the real big deciding factor on if I can reasonably move out to Cali. If anyone lives in that area and can give me some estimates, it would be greatly appreciated.

I was living in Encinitas for about 6 months, and rent was $1500 a month, and that was for a 2 br. house were the landlord was a friend of mine. Prices are about $650 for a studio on up, and that is cheap! The housing market out here is outrageous. I'm going back to Watts in the fall, I have been attending for two sessions, and just took a break for the summer. Ron Lemen, Jeff Watts, Erik Gist, and the rest of the teachers are great instructors. I would look in the areas around Encinitas to live, because Encinitas and Carlsbad are pretty posh for the average joe. I work full-time just to be able to attend the school. Southern California is expensive. So get ready to lose your money..I hope that helps. Ohh.. Try Signonsandiego.com for rentals also.

AND let's not forget the frikkin TRIPLED CAR TAX. To register my lowly truck cost us 108.00 dollars BEFORE the tripling... It will cost me 324.00 to register a Nissan truck for ONE year!!!

I got a 25,000.00 increase in my salary when I moved here and I end up with less money each payday than I had before.

I love Sony and all but California SUH-HUX. No offense to the Native Californians here. I love Texas (where I'm from) and I hear plenty of haters of home (these days, especially)

Yeah SD's pretty bad.

I liked this part: of the new Target opening in Eastlake area, and there was like 250 positions, and they got hit up for 3000 applicants . . .

In degreed work, its the same . . . professionals find it hard. Most positions you find, you run into at least 100 other people with double your qualifications, experience and education, and personality to win the interview.

Rising costs. Gas is higher than the national average . . . housing is very expensive. Overcrowding is expected.

It's like LA (sorry LA), gridlock traffic, DMV's with lines that ring around the building. The local government is also weird, choosing to place funds into touristy / flashy / entertainment stuff rather than practical stuff.

'Yeah we need another stadium and the modern convention center needs expanding and upgrading. Lets put all of our funding . . . oh and the stadium . . . well that's what the tax base is for!' -city council

Yeah sure boys, what about our 1920's sewer / water system, and a police department understaffed by 5000 officers due to the recent homo sapiens population explosion, and massive geographic expansion? Kinda left that out.

Shining light here in SD. Aside from the jewel of surfing, the Watt's school is a great gem. I'm checking it out tomorrow.
