View Full Version : New DSG Rule (Small one)

Hey gang,

In browsing the dsg threads lately I have been noticing a tendency for people to throw in the idea that they suck. Too often I'm seeing posts with their art, then at the bottom it will say "Oh, btw, I suck, so yah" or "Man, I suck" stuff like that.

So as of now I am applying a new rule. No more saying that you suck. We are here to improve our skills, and by saying that you suck all the time, it doesnt help you to advance, nor does it motivate others to work harder.

As a penalty if you say you suck, your image will be replaced with something far more vile :evilbat: (kidding, it will just be edited)

So lets try and push each other to improve, and lets see less of the negative attitudes towards our own work.

peace
Matt

i agree...it'd be pretty hard to get a job if, at the interview, you showed your portfolio and said, "oh...by the way, i suck."

but.... but what if we REALLY REALLY suck? Can we say it then? :(

No...............

The whole idea is to help each other improve, and have fun doing it. If you go around worrying about suckage, then it kinda defeats the purpose. So no more saying you suck, just bite the bullet and try to do better next time if you are not happy with your entry. Its become too much of a crutch.

One of the most depressing things on boards like this is when someone posts something FAR better than what you can do and then add "Bah... I suck"

If there is something in particular that you dont like about your drawing I think it should be sweet to make a comment on that, even if its a vauge "this part of the sketch sucked".

Sometimes I can tell when something doesnt look right in a drawing of mine (usually with shading or proportions) but I need someone to point out exactly what went wrong and how to improve it.

That reminds me, there doesnt seem to be alot of constructive critisism in this forum i've noticed? There are heaps of really skilled people on this forum, so I'd love for them to pull apart my drawings and tell me how I could have improved on them. Or is there somewhere else I should post pictures for that?

although i definitely have a tendency towards this, I agree. that sort of slagging-yourself-off attitude is what you get from growing up in Denmark, I guess.

but it ends now! :)

all the best to you lovely people.

I agree with this rule wholeheartedly, it's hard to improve when you are continuously putting yourself down!, I heard a great piece of advice lately, basically just look for the good points in your images, don't pay any attention to negative oppinions that may form in your head. Since I started doing this, I've noticed a lot of improvement in my work.

Also bear in mind that we are all learning, and only really in competition with ourselves, it won't do you any good to compare your work with some of the masters here if you don't share their years of experience.
I'll shut up now...
