this first one was a tutorial in how to paint in photoshop, the image was spur of the moment for it.

The second one is for a painting I am going to be doing. This is the line art for that painting. Hopefully if time permits, it will be in oil and not digital.

That’s cool man. I am just wondering how many steps you take the tutorial too.

I know you said that you were thinking of putting them up on your site and charging a fee is that the case I would sign up for it.

Hey, I LOVE the second one.
Hardly any homage pieces to Hellboy put in the 'Mignola-shoulder-slope' that all his characters have, but you got it.
And that is lovely pencil drawing. Excellent.

Can I throw this in here?
A screenwriter friend of mine wrote a previously unused draft of a Hellboy script, and I did this pic as a thank you to him for letting me read it.

fred,

I see you're from San Diego. You must know that Mike Mignola was at the ComicCon convention, signing things and talking about the upcoming Hellboy Movie. Did you show him your stuff? I bet he'd like it, or at least, feel gratified.

The sketch is really great, very unique style and excellent skills! The color piece seems to be just a little bit slapdash, I think maybe I would like to see more of his other hand, because it almost looks like the hand turns into the horn that he is grabbing with the other hand.

However, you do have an amazing grasp of lighting and contrast, I am very impressed and would like to see more of your work!

wow...thanks for the support, from everyone...too many to personally write back to, but I will answer a few comments that stuck in my head...

I agree the color is slap dash, it was a tutorial on painting like paint in digital, it is rushed way more than I would like. I like the idea, but the concept has too many tangencies in it that make it impossible to read...

The pencil drawing I love. I didnt know what I was making till it was finished. It was one of those spontaneous bursts of drawing. I knew who it would be, but how to envision it, I had no clue...I am happy with it thus far, I am going to continue forward with it in color next. I will certainly post the progress.

I have two more, but not to this state of completion yet...I will get those up too.

And I wish I could have shown these to Mike, but alas, the timing was not right.

I think he's seen them since I finished though...something tells me...:)

Believe it!

Hellboy is TOUGH TO DRAW. Mike Mignola makes it look easy as pie, that's why he is a master. But I have seen some really great comic artistists try out Hellboy and fail miserably. Your pencil drawing however is a wonderful exception to that rule. I'm not crazy about the other two, but valiant efforts to be sure.

I have to agree with everyone here and say these images are beautiful. So much character in Hellboy's face in the second one.

Have you thought about submitting some work to Dark Horse? They have a comic called "Hellboy's Weird Tales" that features pin-ups and such. I bet these two could make it in there. Hell, I'd buy the comic with either of these two on the cover.
Nice job!

Beer Baron, thank you, I havesubmitted this and other works, and I have been in contct with a few others over there. Things are brewing, if I get a rsponse that is good, I will definitely post it here...thanks for the support.

Hellboy is tough to draw, and Mignola is a master taboot. To get anything remotely as good as his, must take sheer guts to pain it through as I do on each of these...not the guts part, just the pain it through part...I have a few others I am posting here soon, if my computer will stay alive long enough to...

Talk again soon.
