There we go....
UPDATE 1
Alright... this a couple of hours of noodle work. This is in Photoshop 7 BTW... I basically started by adding a texture sandwich on a layer and went through the layer styles until I found one that looked the way I wanted. Then I applied a Palette knife filter to break up the texture image. Next... using black and white for my colors I started modelling my forms a little. Picked up some color here and there. For the cap I just used the Dodge/Burn tool with a custom brush...
That's the gist of it. If anyone has any questions comments... let'm rip.

Disclaimer... this is a work in progress.

Bwahaha...
But you know what, the original sketch has a charm that got lost in the painting. I don't know, maybe it's just the eyes, or something, or maybe it's the ink job that makes it more readable...
Anyway, I'm just rambling. Great stuff.

Hey Cyril-
Thanks, yeah... I always do the eyes last. Kinda *cough, cough* a mystical thing for me. Like breathing life into the work. I do the same when I sculpt... leave the face details for the final step. I agree... at this stage it has lost some of it's life but I find, for me, if I try to get the whole image to work.... the additiion of the eye's "completes" it in a way I can't achieve any other way.
CRAP... I just got artsy on you...

Let me just start by saying 'How the hell do you do that?'
I take my line art and get it up into photoshop and i just can't get anywhere with it- i am starting to think it's because it's a lot less tactile than traditional media.
Anyhow, I also wanted to say that often I leave the eyes till last too, mostly because they're so crucial and can throw a piece right off. I once did a huge charcoal piece which featured the portraits of Hitler, Stalin, Saddam and Castro, leaving their eyes till last. In the end I kept the eyes blank...Hitler with no pupils= creepy.
Thankyou
Chiba
