Hey everyone, just found out about this site, and im already lovin it. These sketches are mostly old ones that may turn into sculpted maquettes, or be revamped into well rendered pieces ( i've just started exploring Painter). Any feedback, or more importantly: tips/links on painter techniques involving pencil sketches, would be greatly appreciated.

here are some quick sketches for a maquette I've been contemplating (or procrastinating). It has to do with the mythological story of Daphne, the nymph that was turned into a tree by her father (a river god i think), to escape the lust of a pursuing Apollo. Apollo had taunted the goddess Aphrodite's archer son: Eros, who shot two arrows, one gold tipped, and one lead. Apollo was struck by the golden arrow, which had the power to fill whoever it hit with the deepest insatiable lust and desire, while Daphne was accidently struck by the lead tipped arrow, which would leave it's victim devoid of romance and or the desire to love anyone... yeah mythology rocks...*sigh* god im a nerd.

I'm the first to say this, but your stuff is good, the anatomy of women is top notch. keep up the good work. I'm just not that much of a fan of animal-humans combined... but thats just my taste

kokopeli...the creepy version. i did a bit of research and found that the actual folklore behind the popular (kokopeli) symbol is pretty screwed up ( i always thought that he had a mohawk or something, but it turns out they're actually phallus).

Think Cerebus the three headed dog of hades meets a mummified baboon.

This is an older project, but i really like the concept overall and it has a whole researched background story i created for it, so i'm hesitant to abandon the creepy critter. Im not particularly ecstatic about the existing project work...i think i've grown a lot as an artist in the past 8 or so months (since i made these). But it was fun... cereboon might be in store for a revamp.

Your Cereboon rules man!
Concept is awesome (as is it's name :D)

Looks good man, can't wait to see what you do with it (if you're ever going to do the revam) even though I think it's great as it is.

heres a turtles piece ( a bit more on my cartoony side) ive been playin with; it still has a bunch of details, textures, and things that need to be finished, but ive become very frustrated with it. I dont know if its the overall composition, the value scale, or just the fact that its too damned busy, but something about it is buggin the heck outta me, and i have been hesitant to give it anymore of my time. If anybody has any feedback or criticism dont hold back, it would be greatly appreciated.

I love your mythological stuff. You should try and do some stuff from some more obscure mythologies like Norse. KEEP POSTING!!

You have strong sketches, keep going with figure drawings.i would just say try and keep your porportions in your sketches, either realisicly or stylized it seems like you are debating between the two. you style kinda resembles an artist by the name of CHEEKS, you should try and look him up. if i find a link i will let you know. a figure a day keeps th stick man away. keep up the good work.

Mono2k5- thanks for the feedback, yea the anthropomorphic thing is a little played out.

Bohemian Chaos- yea the whole Daphne theme is pretty cool, especially some of the old masters sculpture and what not, i've been slackin a bit, but ill try to post up more soon, good looks on the feedback.

Kami- glad you like it, hopefully i can do the concept some better justice with some newer versions.

Iceman- haha you rock dude!

Wendingo- Just started to nerd out on Norse stuff, thanks for the insight ,ill try to post some ideas soon, let me know if you come up with anything too.

Crazyace- you hit the nail on the head man, the struggle between the two different approaches to rendering is always a constant conflict for me, but hopefully ill start to narrow it down. Thanks for the crit, very informative, and appreciated. I'll try and check CHEEKS out.

ACRO- thanks man! the sculpture is about 8 inches tall i think, to be honest the final piece kinda got crispified after some more detail and a final bake ( it turns out some ovens dont go below 250 I geuss). Great thoughts on the TMNT, your definetely right, i need to throw more contrast in it to seperate the the different aspects of the piece... my eyes just started to go gaga after starin at it for so long.

Thanks to everyone who's provided feedback so far, its a great help. I'll be posting some new sketches soon, once my scanner gets off the fritz.
