Good to see you again. Looks like you are working on some interesting stuff.
Your rendering looks great, you have a nice touch.
I love cartoons too, cool work man.
That last ink person is pretty awsome, I love inks as well.
One quick crit, your lips tend to look too wide, you might want to keep an eye out for that.

This is a good start, man! The last one, the line drawing, is very nice!
Could use some line weight tho, looks very flat as it is now.
Keep it up!

you made some nice progress in this last digital study. the shoulder and torso are nicely modelled. i would change the hair though. the value of gray you're using is much too light for all those highlights (it's almost as light as her skin value!), and the brush is too thin.
my approach to doing hair (and metallic reflections) digitally is to use several multiply layers. just stack a few down, use a solid shape brush and pick out highlights by erasing. by adjusting the opacities of the layers you can get the combination that looks right. then you can use a glow/dodge brush on top of that to soften the highlights just a little bit.
your facial features are coming along nicely too. the eyes sit in their sockets like they should, and you didn't make them too deep which is also good. (especially important when doing females and even more important when doing asian females!) I would do something about the jawline though--too straight and too much of a "line"--soften it or turn it into an actual plane of tone.
anyway, just trying to help. you're coming along.

Very nice, especially your last realistic portrait :) The only thing there is to improve as it has been stated above is the hair - try softer brushes next time and you'll see the results will be even better !
Keep up the good work ;)

ccsears: thanks for the advice. I'll definitely try doing hair like that the next time.
vervex: thanks. I will.
I hate updating without updates, but I should have something tomorrow.

Some nice sketches mate, make sure you keep an eye on proportion. A handy way to do this is to either step back when you're working with a physical mdium, or zoom out when you're working with digital, when it gets small, you see the whole image as a whole rather than one small portion of the image that looks perfect.
If it works small, then it will work large! =)
The chick sketch particularly comes to ming, the technique is quite good, but when you zoom out, it looks a little strange and things are off kilter ever so slightly that you wouldn't notice it close up =)
Cheers and keep it up!

Nice progress. I encourage you to work from reference until
you are more comfortable with the human face and figure.
Your value studies are competent, so render them on well-built
anatomys and there will be no stopping you.

Great stuff! I like the cartoon characters and the pencil sketches. That guy with the mohawk and the screws in his head is eerily similar to a self-portrait I did about 10 years ago. The portrait of the asian woman is very well done, though I'd like to see a little more definition in the planes around her right cheek -- it appears to be kinda sinking into her face.
Great work, overall! I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Verah nice. I really like the face of the girl on the bottom left, of that page withall the faces on your first post. The guy with the mohawks head looks too big for his body, donno if that was intentional.

thanks guys. I will take in all suggestions and tips. I'm going to refresh my anatomy. Want to have some up soon.
This was another refed painting. I dont really like the ref photo, too hard of shadows for my taste. So idk if im going to finish yet. Already I see so many things i need to fix.

On this one (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=174393&stc=1&d=1185337302), there's some weirdness going on with the values around her cheekbone (it looks like there's a rod under her skin or something) and the tip of her nose.
The best reference site I know of is Flickr. You can usually find hundreds of good pictures of any subject you could want.

Your photoshop rendering is looking awsome. How long does it tak you to render those women?
Life studies aren't pretty, because they force you to see what you are week in. It is good you are doing them though they will make you better. Keep an eye on the proportions between the head and the body.
Keep posting.

funfetus- thanks, I see what you're saying. Still dont know if I'm going to finish that one yet, but maybe in the future. I've used flickr before, but forgot about it. I'll have to look through it again.
Q- Actually, I used Painter X for those. The first portrait was prolly 8 hours straight. Mostly trying to figure out how to paint, but got the hang of it. The unfinished one is about 1 hour maybe 1.5. I definitely have to stop making the head too big, you're right. I'm definitely going to work on that. thanks man
CARTOONS!! I love em. Will color them after homework.

well, not much of a good update, but it's something i guess.

Hey, unfortunately no updates this time. I'm working on some 3D work, almost done, and a pencil piece. Should have them up soon.
I was wondering if anyone was going to Wizard World Chicago this weekend. I'm going to be there Friday working for my school, Illinois Art Institute, from 2-6. apparently they got a booth or something there. So free tickets for me, whoo! Anyways, I was just wondering.
later guys.

Next is super girl. I liked this a little more than the other one.

Some 3D updates, got it mostly completed. Just need to put some materials on it. And then some quick sketches I used to model this guy. I dont think ill have time to put hair or teeth on it. Gotta get crackin on the second model for my animation for my schools animation festival. I only have until the end of september to get it done. so no pussy footin around with this anymore.

Updates:
Some videos of a couple of simple animations for an assignment for tomorrow. I have to have a character pick something heavy up, turnover in bd, and push an immovable object. I still have to do the immovable object one tonight. I'm ok with them so far. Maybe after I get done with the last one, I can tweak these two.
Enjoy...

Hey, great toon work, and nice pencil shadings too.
With the 3d model of the boy, I would suggest that he's too heavy with the edge loops everywhere and that you should let the mesh smoothing do the work for you - in places like the bend of the elbows you really only need 3 edge loops to animate it correctly, any more is going to give you headaches later when you skin him, although having said that, you could add an extra edge loop or two into his forearm, as when you do rig him you'll probably want to put a 'twist' bone in there so the mass doesn't go out of the arm unnaturally when his wrist twists. I also think, when modelling character to animate later, you should consider having the arms at a 45 degree angle downwards with the palms facing down - this gives a good half way point between the extremes of motion and will allow you to skin it more easily and avoid ugly deformation.
Also with the animation, try to use 'moving holds' by making really slight movement during the times when then character stops, rather than setting the exact same key that they started the hold on, you can just set a key a few frames after they start moving again and drag that back to use as the end of the hold; this gives the character a bit of anticipation to his movement while avoiding the awful 'no movement' problem that can happen in 3d animation. I would also suggest animating the hands with forward kinematics instead of inverse kinematics (it makes a much smoother curve motion rather than setting heaps of keys to 'fix' the ik) - when he walks forward to try to pick up the box in post 34 his hands 'lock' in place at the end of his walk, though of course you'll want to switch back to fk for the box pickup (i hope your rig is capable of switching between ik and fk, if not, send it back and ask for another one!).
I like the second 'dog' character, I can see you'll have a lot of fun animating it falling over and getting excited etc. Good work, I'm looking forward to seeing more.

dark maggot and edmundantes: thanks guys.
puck: thanks alot for the tips. Those are the reasons i'm not a modeler. I just dont have that knowledge for it, but I'll keep trying. I'm much more interested in animating, so thanks for that tip. And that little animated guy is just a little generic guy I modeled. Used IK's for arms and legs and FK's for everything else. Thanks again.
Hopefully I'll have some updates soon. I'm working on a little animation, dont have much time left at all and have a lot to do, and finals for classes.

Small animation update. This was something I was trying to get done in time for a little animation festival, but unfortunately didnt. Some of the parts look pretty badly animated cus i didnt take my time on them. This isnt even a real render, just a preview. Oh well, got some experience under my belt doing this. Used 3ds max.

Grandmassa: thanks man.
A new model I'm working on. I figured I pretty much suck at modeling, especially for animation. I dont really have the knowledge for it. So I've been asking my game design buddies and they've been helping me out and giving me tips (I did all the modeling myself of course). I'm winging it so far on the arms but I think the body is coming out fairly nicely.
The first two are the low poly versions and the others are the turbo smoothed versions.
Low Polycount : 898 Polys
High Polycount : 7200 Polys
