Started working on this earlier today in Painter X, want to add some more details, but would really appreciate some c + c on the colour/lighting base?
Cheers!

For the most part I quite like it. I think the colour is good, except for the reddish area on the left, because everything else is blue it rely draws your eye, and I don't think that its suposed to be the focus so you might want to alter that slightly. My only other complaint is again a compositional one. The way the cave closes to a point on the left acts almost like an arrow. When you look at this your eye goes first to the red and because your now looking at the left side you get caught in the arrow of the cave opening and your eye gets pushed off the left side of the painting. Just try covering the left side with your hand and I think it makes a huge improvement. Can't wait to see this once a bit more work goes into it.

I just quickly made the changes you suggested, a couple of good spots, I think it's improved with just a few brushstrokes.

Much nicer with the reddish-free version... :teeth:
I liked your first sun better, though :bashful:

Im not sure but in my opinion the stones in the foreground are too bright.
The only light is the one coming through that opening and the stones in front of us are the ones with the greatest distance to that point.
like I said, Im not sure about that, but I would test it out. A Cave is supposed to be dark isnt it ? If your remember going out of the cellar or a dark room and see the light, it looks even more flashing and everything else even darker.

Yeah, I buggered that up for no good reason, I intend to change that back because I also prefer it how it was.
As for the rocks being too bright at the front, I think that's probably right, I think the piece felt somewhat more correct when the front was only blocked in, and not detailed (i.e. highlighted).
I've run into a problem though with detail. I realised last night its at 300 dpi but only 1680 pixels wide, so I'm struggling to really add much more.. I feel its eternally detined to be a sketch, unless I stretch it out over a new canvas and use the colours as a reference to repaint it =/. That'll teach me, what a n00b mistake.

Just tried out an alternate version for this, with a brighter light source and a blocking silhouette in an attempt to add some interest with some light bloom...
But I'm not sure it works to be honest.
As for the foreground, I'm struggling to create some detail and can't find much in the way of similarly-lit rocks to draw inspiration from...
C n C's? This is hitting a brick wall at the moment and I could use some inspiration.

...and a third, this time with PS handling the lighting effects (I think this works the best)

Lol, i guess lens flare is frowned upon. I felt a little dirty using it tbh, but I thought it wasn't ott.

'ott'? I'm a little back on chatspeak. Darned kids.
While I'm posting I might as well say you should redo it and this time do something by yourself. But I suggest you keep the pink tone around the light area. It's kind of nice.

it looks good, but they are right, lens flare is not the right thing to do in painting. it looks false, and... It's a no-no anyways, using filters in photoshop instead of painting. don't feel insulted, that's not what I want, lol, I have been told not to use filters too before :)
keep the pink color, as the others said too.
