Hi guys

Just wondering if yall had any recommendations for a book i should get. I dont really know exactly what i want but something to show me how to draw people. I have found that anatomy books just mainly show bones and muscles but i wanna see people from the outside. know what i mean? Ive heard alot about "Bridgman" books but havent found any at book stores. Are they that good?

:chug:

I know it's not really a book recommendation, but grab a sketchbook and take it to class, like Math or Science, or go to a cafe or a park with a sketchbook and just draw people. The best way is life drawing classes period. Really the only way I found that I improved on my people drawing skills has been life drawing. Books never really helped me too much.

Anatomy for the Artist by Sarah Simblet has some really good photographs of people. Expensive book, though.

thanks guys

ive already told barnes and noble to order me a copy of bridgmans Complete Guide to Drawing From Life and i also wanted to get that Anatomy for the Artist but it seems to have too much nudity and im pretty sure my mom wouldnt let me get it. Sorry for sounding like a little kid but its true. :(

Go ahead make fun if you wish.
She just doesnt understand art.

Blackhawk thanks for the advice but i really cant think of anywhere to go to draw people. i know it sounds weird but unless i go up to Kroger and draw the cashiers im out of luck. I suppose i could go to the library and draw people reading. Theres really no parks or anything around here. hmmm

Bombesei, thanks for those links. lot of books there that ive heard of while lurking around here but i dont really know which ones r good.

Well as i said before im gonna get bridgmans complete guide to drawing from life and hope something good comes out of that ;)

Just tell your mom that your artistsic future depends on getting Anatomy for the Artist :) But really, you need to draw from observation because the people they put into books are usually near-perfect human specimens, and you see people like that in real life not very often.

The only other piece of advice i can offer you is something that has a certain amount of risk and trust.

This past year, my last year of high school, I had a few of my closest female friends come over to my house when no one was home and pose for me, most of the time either nude or veiled w/ linens or something.

I fully recommend this process to anyone, but you have to be mature about it and you have to be courteous to your model and have them trust you that you will be mature. It takes a lot of planning in advance, and understand that an appointment can be canceled in an instant.

Seeing that you're still in high school, realize that if you're found out, your ass is grass, my friend.

Ok, i hope that i could be of help,

clay

Like I said, it's a good price. You could easily spend five times as much for a copy of an early printing or one in exceptionally good shape. Since I assume that's not an option, fire up your printer!
