I sort of liked a dsg I did and tried to turn it into something more finished. What is below is a reworking of what I had posted originally. If you can't remember you can see its original hideousness here (http://www.spherenoire.com/forumart/redhead.jpg). This is still about the most boring thing this side of illustration, but I tried to make it a little better.

This was the dsg sketch.

Hey Turokess, nice painting. You've got some really good color shifts going on in some areas. The one thing I think that could help this one out a lot is if you'd just bump up the contrast in a couple select areas. The candles, the light sources for the piece, could be causing some really severe lights and darks even though they're small. The painter I think you could look at as an example is Georges de la Tour. I put a link to his paitning that's hanging in my local museum so you could see what I mean. It gives it a different mood with some really light lights combined with your darks. Plus, rearrange the first four letters of your alias and you've got his name. :P

Thanks Bombesei, that helped out a lot. I have seen the artist's work before but it has been a while. He really perfected that kind of lighting. I went back into mine and tried to bring it out a little so I don't cringe when I look at it anymore.

looks good, great development since the DSG. How many hours more in the non-DSG image ;)?

Well done here. Great attempt at dramatic lighting. ....Please forgive my noobness though. Whats a dsg? Ive wondered for sometime now. At first I thought everybody was celebrating my arrival at this forum.( Seeing as my initials are DSG) But relized I had nothing to offer this place and that is was just a disappointing coincidence.

gallon: Thanks. As for hours, a really rough guess would be maybe 14(?) hours. I'm really bad at tracking hours since I work on things so sporadically. I had a lot of trouble with the drawing when I started out on it.
CleptoCat: Hehe, DSG stands for Daily Sketch Group. It's been a thing going on for a while now at Conceptart. There is a link at the top-right of the forum that will take you to that section. See it? What happens is, a topic is posted at a certain time each day. Then everyone has 24 hours to draw it. It's a sketch thing, so most work is drawn within 1.5 hours.
