Not a very good concept to begin with... some juxtapositions going on, but the composition is weak. I don't know what to do with it. The brushwork is also quite sloppy right now, I will probably end up putting it through a photoshop filter and then painting over.

I want to create a great sense of depth and scale.

Does anyone know how to render clouds close up?

My friend helped me on msn. Here's the revised version, still looking for crits if anyone has any.

i like the first one better to be honest. because all that white in the second makes it look very messy and it is covering that curved shape thing at the front... which made the picture look 3d in the first version. the second version looks more flat(and messier too) than than the first.though, i really like that thing at the center beside the door in the second version.

Some ideas:
Composition:
You have the main elements in the left and near the edges, I think it would be good to give them more room, or even place them/one in the middle. Remember that the white lines are quite strong as well, watch it that they don't take your attention away from the main elements.

General:
I too like the first pic more. Although it seems like your friend tried to saturate and empathize the colors, which I think is good. Adding more color and detail to the girl and hat will draw your attention towards it.
Add more things that make it look like an airship (its an airship, right?). There's very little place for a background, but it can really help out. IE doors, burn marks, engine parts, a typical metal texture, and whatnot.
A clear lightsource and shadows - speaks for itself.
Also, there's movement but I'm not sure where it's going. Is the ship flying or is there just a strong wind? Make sure hat, clouds, dress, smoke, w/e all match up.

I'm not a pro, so check for yourself if you agree, these are my thoughts.
I do like the concept though, and the strong difference in color. Make sure you post updated versions :)
