Try having black paper behind the page while scanning.
Or white paper. I haven't tried it myself, but I am just about to.
good stuff.
edit:
On my end, the leads looked darker scanned with black paper as a backing.
It picked up more noise and smudge marks.
With white paper, it had less noise/smudge marks.
All in all, may as well just adjust the levels in photoshop.

i tried doing a still life with acrylics, and it was a disaster... i just put a shoe, a spoon, a red cloth and a brown bag that i didn't get to. it is almost impossible to do any blending with acrylics. this is a piece of the larger picture that i cut out.
tips in how to paint with acrylics badly needed.

What do you mean "No point in finishing" ?! That thing is awesome. How long did it take you to come up with?
Your other stuff is cool to. Pencil work is my fave. But the acrylics look really good. If your not happy with it I can understand why you stopped, but it is quite nice.
The bug/human thing is freaky. The guy's facial features are portrayed well.
I want to see some more creatures! :D
Nice stuff

Hey, I saw that you were in need of some help with acrylics. It is actually very possible to blend acrylics, you just need the right medium...what is that medium you say? Most major acrylic brands make a product called "Retarder" which is added directly to your paint and results in your paint staying wet much longer giving you the time to blend. "Flow release" or "blending medium" will also do the trick. You might also consider getting a spray bottle and misting your paints / painting with water as you are working to keep it on the moist side. Too much of any of the above however can relsult in complications, but play with each of them to see what works for you. I recomemnd Golden's acrylic brand retarder. Your paint will not stay as wet as if you were working with oils, but it will do the trick. Experiment with working on different surfaces as well to see what kind of effects you can get- ie. wood, cardboard, canvas, illustration board etc... Look into using gesso as well to prime the surfaces that you work on. Hope this was helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions. Keep up the good work!

Thank you rhgannon for the helpful words, i will try getting my hands on blending mediums for acrylics, i know that the local art store does not supply it. which is the reason why i didn't know about them. :/

Heeey. Wow, your pencil work is strong man! Plus I love the acrylics. I'm starting a journey on it myself but you have more guts than I do.
I agree with Tytseng about the Architect as well. I look forward to seeing more.

i want to start a portfolio, i got an idea for the first picture i want to do. this is a very rough sketch done in about 10 mins (i hope you can see enough of it), but i really want to know what you guys think of the idea. if it is crap say so. ohh and what do people look for in a portfolio?

As for getting better ASAP with oils...well, as with most things in life it will take effort and time. As for some tips, consider using acrylics for underpaintings and then glazing over top with your oils. This will speed up your working process quite a bit as the acrylic layers will dry within minutes-if applied thinly- oils can take up to a year (sometimes more) to dry depending on how thickly the paint is put on. Apparently some of Van Gough's paintings are still wet on the bottom layers! Make sure to prime your working surface with gesso which can be sanded down when dry with a fine grit sand paper to give you a very smooth working surface. Consider exploring the various mediums for oil paints. Research techniques in "How to Books" (should be able to find them in the library if you don't want to buy them. If you have any specific questions relating to oils let me know. Hope this helps. Good luck!

you have a really great understanding of form shown in your pencil renders, I think the abdomen on your last bloke is off though. Also you could try pusinhg the colour palletes in your acrylic work a little more.
