you have some very strong composures here, i like the off angle framing of the images and i find the subjects mostly interesting.

the thread will get a lot more posts if the images were posted directly to the post. use the insert image option when making the post and post the hiper link to your image, Ill edit one to show you

1 and 9 have some really nice compositions. :) Overall, just make sure you watch out for overexposure when working in direct sunlight.

My Favs are 1 and 6 :)

They look really good, but I do agree with the exposure with the sunlight. If possible, I would try to change the time of day when u take the pics, but I understand how taking pics in direct sunlight can be tough.

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate them. I plan on buying some filters after I get a new camera, as I don't think my current camera can fit any, so hopefully they'll help with overexposure. :)

And thanks for fixing my post, Samsite.

nice clean work, I particularly like your attention to framing, as in the "Framed" and "Red and Blue" shots

Small update. I've not been able to take too many pictures recently because of the horrible weather outside (It lures you out with a bit of sunshine then drops flash flood type rain on you faster than a bear attacks a boy scout camp). The first is a picture I managed to get just before it started raining. Not the best in the world but something about it appeals to me.

And the second is because...well...what photographer hasn't taken cute pics of their pet? You guys are all guilty too.

The first one appeals to me as well. :) I really like the composition. The ripples in the water really boost it as well. You may want to crop out the pier/dock edge in the top left-hand corner though.

Cute cat. :)

Demonic Rabbit
July 3rd, 2007, 02:28 PM
I tried doing that but if I crop it vertically then part of the subject gets cropped with it and the picture gets too tight and if I crop it from the side, it throws the composition off.

I might try and clone it out but that could be hard with the ripples and whatnot.

Thanks for the comment!

Whatever you did, it was a VERY nice edit! :)

Thanks. 15 minutes with Photoshop's clone stamp tool took care of it. It's still blatantly obvious to me but that's just 'cause I know it's there. I touched it up further after uploading that one but I'm too lazy to resize and re-re-upload :P

Speaking of spiffy programs, I got Adobe Lightroom yesterday. It's pretty kickass, looks smooth and gives you so much more control over processing your photos. The only thing is, for some reason the photo's look a lot better in Lightroom then they do once I export them. I'm not sure why this is. Maybe it's just me.

Bet you guy's can't guess where I went today? Go on, i'll give you three shots!

The dog's name is Kibble (Named after the wine "Kibble Hill", apparently).

The panoramic shots were stitched together in Photoshop.

This post took forever thanks to Imageshack. Does anyone know any free, reliable image upload sites similar to Imageshack (I.e. I don't need to sign up to use it)?

Comments and Critiques, you guy's know the drill.

Thanks, I just boosted it a little and it's helped but I don't wanna try and force too much out of it. It was a pretty overcast day so the light was pretty flat all around.

Looks a bit better though.

Ok this is quite late.
Referring to your first post.

2. "Framed" is lovely, the only thing is it seems just a tiny bit tilted to the right. Although it could also be that I'm sleep deprived and falling over slightly.

3. "London Breakdown" that bicycle tire off on the left side kind of catches your eye (in a bad way). I would suggest seeing what it looks like cropped out, and perhaps if it seems in the wrong proportions you could skim a tad off the bottom.
Well something to play with :^^:

I wanted to try and give some kind of a crit instead of a "cool photo's" comment, but it was hard, and what I did come up with was quite nitpicky...

Oh and nice clouds in the pano!

It's alright. And you're right about London Breakdown. Shame I missed that. I'll sort it out next time I can be bothered to put up with ImageShack.

It's update time! I went to a National Trust area today called Cragside for my Grandad's birthday. Beautiful place.

The first pictures are related to my Grandad. He's the main reason that I got into photography. He was born in 1926 and first picked up a camera in the 1930's. Needless to say, he has alot of experience under his belt. Despite being in his 80's he's still lively, talkative and cheeky as ever. He's the most well travelled person I know and has numerous friends all over the globe, most of which barely speak English (He's a master of generating rapport through body language). I'll always remember visiting his house and seeing a new set of his prints hanging up on the wall and wondering how someone could take such beautiful pictures. I'm dedicating this update to him.

Nice dedication. :)

3: I really like the contrast here.

4: I simply love it. Have you peeked at it in B/W? :)

7: This is my fave out of the update, although I wish it was be a bit sharper.

8: Try straightening the edge of the building and play around with cropping.

9: Nice abstract. Maybe some more contrast and a trial-run in B/W?

10: Yummy colors and photo. :)

Playing around with self portraits. This is one of two that came out alright. I could only find one small, low power lamp so it was hard to get it positioned. Would have been nice if I could have found a little fill light, or been able to position the main light better but I like it all the same.

"Pensive"

So I'm quite in love with your self portrait... thought I'd let you know :^^:

btw that bit of shadow top right, was it intentional?

Demonic Rabbit
July 22nd, 2007, 05:10 PM
No, no it wasn't, the lamp I was using was just a bit crappy is all, doesn't have much of a range. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I think I might remove it. What do you think?

purplerose
July 22nd, 2007, 07:49 PM
Nice work with the self-portrait! :) You could probably clone out the misplaced shadow. I think cropping would adversely affect the photograph.

I think I will clone that shadow out. It shouldn't be too hard. I agree that cropping it wouldn't help out at all.

And thanks for the comments everyone, it's encouraging to receive feedback, particularly when it's positive :)

Edit: I cloned the shadow out of "Pensive"

Also, this is a little off topic but how on earth do I get a little avatar to display? I've tried to upload one but it never seems to register it. Does anyone have any advice?

Demonic Rabbit

An update! Finally!

Playing around in my back garden. Comments and critiques encouraged :)

Edit: Altered the cropping on #1 to make it a little tighter. I'm still not very happy with it, but it looks a little better this way.

Yay an update! :)

I like #3 better in color, it has more contrast and zing. Your yellow-oranges are beautifully exposed. :)

For #1, I think you should play around with its composition more.

Demonic Rabbit
August 3rd, 2007, 11:28 AM
I agree about #1. It's definitely the weakest. It was taken from a pot plant at ground level, so it was difficult to cut all the surrounding crap from it considering my camera has the hardest time focusing on anything too close / too zoomed in. I only posted it because I was a fan of the colours.

Good to know which of the two daisies you prefer though :)

And while people will be looking at my topic, any advice on getting my avatar to show up? I uploaded a picture to my profile but it still doesn't display an avatar. What else do I need to do?

An update! Some of these I'm not too fond of, particularly the swan ones, but I'll post them anyway since I've not updated in a while. I've been playing around with HDR on a couple of these, I'll point out which.

Comments and crits appreciated.

#1 (HDR. I'm not so much a fan of this because it really needs to be sharper, but it was my first attempt with HDR so I thought I'd post it. Also, photoshop forces me to save any HDR image as a .png, which really seems to affect it's sharpness. Annoying.)

I like how the sunlight graces the horse's mane in #2, but i kinda wish I can see more of it's head.
I love how magical #3 appears, my fave of this update and probaby my top one from you. :)
I like #4 as well. The reflected sky was captured beautifully in the water. I don't know much about HDR, but I feel that your shadows could be a tad darker.
Hmm, headless swans are really cool. :) I love the way the water looks. Perhaps the whites are a bit underexposed?

Tiny update. I got caught in the rain in Newcastle, so I thought I'd use it to my advantage. Also, it passed the time while I was hiding in a doorway to avoid getting wet.

This is just a shameless bump to stop my topic from falling off the edge of the world.

I'm not dead, I'm just in America at the minute. I've taken plenty pictures while I've been here, I just have no way of editing and storing them while I'm here so there will be more when I get back home in a week and a bit.

Okay, okay, so I've not updated in a long while. I know this is a reoccurring habit at the minute and I'm probably going to burn in the special layer of hell reserved for lazy photographers and people who hand out leaflets in cities but I've been busy with uni work lately.

I was planning on waiting until I had a few more upload worthy pictures and making a decent update, but I feel bad that I've not posted anything in a while so here are a couple:
