This is a concept piece I did for a friend. He created a character for his Dungeons and Dragons game and asked me to represent it. I did the sketch in Painter and painted in in Photoshop. I tried some things with the lighting but I know it still needs some work.

ok, first of all blending effects such as bevel/emboss aren't necessarily your best friends in painting. The bow needs shading by hand.
second of all, determine light sources. I can see you intended to put two light sources, but you rendered the guy as if there's only ambient light. Put more explicit shadows, especially on the quiver and chain mail. If the hand holding the bow is stretched out in your intention, it could use some perspective foreshortening.
Why not colour in painter? (: Try it sometime, you might like it, once you get used to it.

Thanks for the comments. I have tried coloring in Painter but I still can't get used to it. I get frustrated with the layers and the limitations. It's easier to do stuff on PS.

i agree with rinmon. the bow needs better shading to go along with the character. and to me, the hand holding the bow looks a tad to big. although, i could be wrong since im not that good at anatomy just yet, but it does look a bit to big. just a bit though
